Default 1985 4wd light not coming on doesnt feel like its in 4wd

1985 blazer 2.8l converted to 4.3l 4x4 . don't really use this anymore but last year we replace the 4wd actuator this year we find the boot has ripped like many reviews say. so we buy a wells brand and install it . working well so far..

the vacuum seems good, the boot is working, the cable is not binding but the light on the dash is not coming on and it doesn't feel like its locking in 4wd. what next?????? im not by the vehicle right now so can anyone tell me if the cable going in to the front diff has another part bolted to the outside of the diffthat could be bad with a harness on it that would throw the light on. or is that only on newer blazers? any ideas let me know thanks

i owned a 85 a while back, and i remember the acuator being on the passenger side fender well. which was really nice cause you can see if its working. it may be pulling it but not pulling it wall the way, i used to have to put mine in neutral after engaging the 4x4, pull on that wire while slowly rolling the truck until you felt it go into gear then just put a pair of vise grips on it.

before that truck i owned a 83 and it was the same crap, got sick of messing with it every year or replacing vacuum switches every 6 months. on the the 85 was a off road only truck so i just left the vise grips on it, the 83 i ran a source of vacuum over there and just plugged it in when i wanted 4x4. sucked to have to pop the hood everytime but at least i knew it was going to work
