Default 94 S10 Blazer TailGate and Hatch Glass

Welcome, thanks for stopping in! First post, Fourth day with my s10

On Monday I picked my self up a 1994 S10 Blazer with 94k on the Odometer, it has done most of it's sitting early on in it's life but had been driven regularly the past few years. Mechanically the engine is good minus a hole in the exhaust (replacing tomorrow), but the exterior and interior could use some work (nothing TOO bad). I picked her up for $800 and drove 50 minutes back home no problems I'm very happy with the deal I got. I'm sure over the next few years I'll have plenty of questions but for now I am trying to fix up the back of my Blazer.

Here's what is wrong: My tailgate doesn't open (or so I've been told?) I assume that it does open but can't close again if I open it. The glass hatch part on top also doesn't lock into the tailgate so it is ALWAYS unlocked. :/
Honestly I am coming to you guys for this because I am not sure what would cause it to do this. My assumption is that this is all linked to the locking mechanism in some way, which to me seems like I should get a new tailgate or replace the mechanisms inside. I feel like I am beyond capable of that task. So lets say I replace either the tailgate (probably from a junk yard?) or just the locking mechanism, where would I get keys to open the car back there? If my possible prediction is completely off let me know!

*I also posted this on S10 forum*

If you got a replacement from a scrap yard, you could change out the locks from yours. No worries about keys then. Also, the catches for the tail gates are adjustable. Same thing with the glass. Check the glass catch by shutting it slowly, and looking to see whether the catch is making contact in the proper place with the glass. The tailgate catches can be adjusted by loosening the catches themselves, (there is a little play allowed, and then retightening the catch.

Okay thanks for replying, so you'd say you don't think it's my locking mechanism that is causing to not work?

That would be a hard call when I haven't seen it in person. What I am saying is that all of the lock plates and catches are adjustable to some degree. Adjustment might solve your issue. Also, the entire window catch and setup is not difficult at all to replace.
