Default '94 w intermittent starting. Cranks, no fire.

94 w engine. I have a no start issue and I'm looking for tips.

Last week while I was out it would not start. Cranking away, but just flat spinning, no sputtering, coughing or any signs of trying to start. After a half dozen tries with breaks in between, it fired up. It's since done this 3-4 more times, every time "fixing itself" after a brief wait. (How can I fix it if it won't stay broke!?) I'd been leaning towards an electrical problem because of the odd way it would all the sudden start and that I could hear the fuel pump each time.

Well today it stayed broke. lol . Today it didn't fix itself so I was finally able to trouble shoot it somewhat. I found I had power at the coil, then tested for spark, which I had. That surprised me as I was really thinking electrical. Luckily I had some starting fluid with me, I gave it a squirt and got her to start. (and quickly drove my *** home)

"Here we go again." (this truck's on it's 6th fuel pump, 3rd spider and 4-5 FPR at least). Though with all the problems I've had, it's never done this.

I checked the oil today and it wasn't low like I expected it to be. I thought "Hmmm… maybe another FPR issue?"

But I just checked the fuel:
60lbs @ key on.
50lbs @ 10 minutes
40lbs @ 30 minutes
35lbs @ 45 minutes

The only thing I can think to do is keep the gauge in the truck and next time it won't start, see what the pressure is. (I just put a Delco pump in last fall, replacing a Bosch that wasn't bad either.lol)

Any ideas?

Hasn't done it again so far. I wonder is bad gas could be part of it, hasn't happened again since I gassed up. Probably just wishful thinking.

No matter, I think she's going to make a one way trip to the scrap yard real soon.

The leak down is not the best, it should not drop below 55psi in 10 minutes.

Unless that truck has ten million miles, how the heck have you gone through that many fuel system components????!!!!

Are those all cheap Chinese junk parts, or AC Delco/Delphi parts? (which are made in Brazil, go figure...)

Only 190K and most of those parts/troubles coming in the last 10-15k miles or so.
It was mostly Delco and Standard stuff.

No matter, it's off to the scrap yard this weekend. I think the new fuel tank bugs me more than anything else. (although I do have some new parts I never even got to install. lol)

That sounds pretty strange, like there's more going on. Ever change the fuel filter, along with all that other stuff?

The pump... 1st time original owner, 2nd & 3rd time second owner, 4th, 5th & 6th times with me (though the last time was unneeded). The pick up strainer sock. I changed the fuel filer a few times. Changed the fuel tank. Nut kit. 3 spiders.

I took the truck to the store last night to use up some of the gas, and when I tried to start it, it wouldn't. It must be insufficient pressure to makes the poppets squirt. Squirted some started fluid down the throat and she fired right up and ran as good as normal.

Anyhow... I'm on my way outside right now to start taking all my stuff out of it, then we're off for that one last ride of no return.

It went unwillingly, kicking and screaming. I had a hell of a time getting it started and keeping it running. I was feeling sad about it, but in traditional fashion the truck took any regret out of it.

I paid $500 for it.

Drove it for four years (probably 3 1/4 if you count all the down time.)
Got $425 scrap for it.

Of course I probably put $2500+ in parts in it in that time.
