After researching this to death, I purchased a rebuild CPI unit, new fuel lines, new intake gasket and new rubber intake boot.
Everything went pretty easy until I got to the fuel lines. I disconnected the metal lines from the lines inside the intake, but the bolt that holds the metal lines in a bracket about 3" below the connection, is giving me fits. There is a large wire loom in the way ofeven getting a hand in there, then the bolt is so close to the bend around the lines that you can't use a skinny box end wrench on it. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to stand on his head trying to get a wrench on it for an hour or 2.
my lower intake looks exactly the same as those pictures and had gas standing in the bottom.
After the new fuel pump, the truck ran like new a couple of weeks, I suspect the higher pressure of the new pump is what caused something to split and leak, and its been running rich ever since.
Oh well, back to standing on my head trying to get that stupid bolt out.

Another update. After fighting with the bolt in that bracket for over an hour and ripping up the skin on my hand, I just carefully bent he gas lines out of the way. I replaced the inner fuel lines and hooked them back up, it was not hard.
Replaced the spider, and when I lifted it out of the intake, gas dribble out the breather hole on the pressure regulator, showing me that it had split and been spraying that side of the intake where it was clean. Bolted everything back together, it started right up, but there was so much raw gas I took it out for about 15 miles of highway, and when I got back it was as smooth as new.
My advice to anyone that has one of these W motors, if you replace the fuel pump, be ready to replace the spider, 20 years of gas apparently hardened the diaphragm in regulator, and the new pump with higher pressure split it. The only thing left in the original fuel system is the tank and the steel fuel lines.
