Default Engine Codes 12, 13, and 43. 93 s10 blazer

Hi i got a 1993 s10 blazer with 4.3L vortec "w" engine code (4x4 2 dr.)

I just learned how to do the paper clip trick, and i pulled 12, 13, and 43.

Can someone please explain what these can mean. I am getting some rough idleing and its at random times. and if it helps it smells like it is running kind of rich. truck has been doing this for over a year but its that time of the year i want to get this things running good.

somethings i am doing to it in the next couple weeks is plugs and wires, fuel filter, and just got my oil changed.

i know a little about cars, but all i need is some advice on that these codes mean, and how to fix them.

thanks

the code 12 you have you dont have to worry about that. it will pop up when you use the paper clip trick. the code 43 is the knock sensor and the 13 is the o2 sensor. that could possibly explain why the truck smells kinda rich.

13 Oxygen sensor voltage stays between 0.35 and 0.55 volts for 30 seconds when the TPS signal was above 0.55 volts. The engine had been running for at least 40 seconds with an engine temperature above 110 F.

43 Knock sensor signal was either above 3.5 volts or below 1.5 volts for at least 20 seconds.

First thing I would look for is burned wires or missing connections on the O2 sensor. You will find your O2 sensor on the exhaust pipe on the bottom of the truck, and your knock sensor I beleive is down behind the distributor. Personally I would not mess with the knock sensor yet, I think if the O2 failed then you could be getting a false knock signal from pre-detonation and there is no error in the sensor itself. You can also trigger a false knock signal with loose parts in the engine bay or a noisy valvetrain. Inspect the O2 wiring, maybe remove the sensor and see if its coated in junk or broken off and replace. Test probe the O2 connection for voltage, I beleive it should be getting 5V at the plug. O2 sensor is in a high heat area and they do fail. Knock sensor just listens for a knock internally and I have never seen one fail in all my years.

hello i have the same exact blazer with the same problem. i was told that the code is the knock sensor but the code is intermittent and more prevelent when it is cold. If anyone knows what could be causing this please let me know.... thank you... is there any way to fix a knock?? thanks,
Tyler
