89 s-10 Blazer won't start

Default 89 s-10 Blazer won't start

Just had my son's 89 (fwd)s10 blazer's lower ball joints replaced, was driving it home, stopped at a light and went to go but I stalled it out, tried to restart and it tries but won't turn over.

We have changed out the fuel filter, starter, and alternator over the past year. I'm thinking its the fuel pump. (hope not) but...how tough is it to do it ourselves? Is it in the tank?

It does or does not turn over?

You stated it does not turn over, in which case a fuel pump has nothing to do with that,


If your engine stalled on you and will not turn over but the starter still 'clicks or clunks' try turning your crank pulley.... be careful if your engine wants to kick and pull your finger into the belt


If your engine does turn over but doesn't start first thing to do is check for fuel and spark...


also are you sure your battery is still charged to a state where it can turn over? It is also possible that your battery isn't charging and lost enough power to either not supply enough voltage to get sufficient fuel pressure or deliver a powerfull enough spark and stalled out.

1) Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on (this should be an easy way to see if the fuel pump is at least trying)

2) I just had to replace my ignition coil as it had failed. I had a no start condition, but was able to get it started by tapping the coil with the back of a screwdriver. A light tap with a hammer often works the same.

3) Did you try spraying carb cleaner / ether in the intake and starting? If the car will start when you spray chemicals in the intake then you most likely have a fuel issue.

And, to answer your question:

The pump itself is not difficult, but the parts around it are often very rusted and make this project more difficult. If you break a rusted line, you're looking at fabbing up your own new line from scratch. If you see lots of rust on the sending unit, you may be best off replacing the whole unit with the pump rather than trying to disconnect the fittings. If you were able to replace the fuel filter, you might be ok. I can't even make out the fittings on my line they are so rusted.

Yes, the pump is in the tank.
