So heres the story to spin it quick...... a few days ago while driving my blazer randomly died and along with it my electrical components ( interior lights, headlights,etc) put in a new battery, that wasnt the issue..... got a new alternator (which was on its way out) still no dice.... after talking to a mechanic friend he'd suggested checking the starter circuit being the positive side apparently feeds the fuse block.... when i checked it out i noticed a 12 or 14 gauge wire coming off the positive terminal of the starter broken and the other half hooked to a connector on the engine..... the connector is in questionable condition because after unplugging it, splicing the wire together, and replugging it it seemed as though it didnt make that great of a connection......

so my questions are:

what is the name of the wire/connector that i spoke of thats on the engine?

can i find it at a parts store?

and if im on the wrong track what else can it be?

 

should just be a one piece cable going from your starter to your engine. i'd search starter cable

 

I think you are talking about a fusible link. I had a friend put a battery in his car that was too big before with top posts, when he closed the hood it hit the top of the battery and burned every fuse link in the car... I think if that fuselink you said is broken was rubbing on the engine part its now welded to until it burned through. Maybe you could show us some pictures of it? Do you get any power to anywhere on the fuseboard at all? Give us a little more info please.

 

What color is the wire?
Does it come from the starter itself or the solenoid?
What engine do you have. 2.5, 2.8 or 4.3?
If it's a purple wire it goes to your ignition switch (start position) through the clutch switch (MT) or neutral switch (AT).
A little more info would help.

 

thanks for the fast responses guys.... i have no pictures onhand, my s10 blazer is a 2.8L v6 5 speed manual with 4 wheel drive. i didnt pull the starter out yet, thats tomorrows task i dont remember the color wire off hand but it comes off the positive terminal of the starter solenoid and has a connector on the end of it with a pin in it like a pin and sleeve connection that connects to the lower passenger side of the engine....

 

The W/D says it's a red wire that goes through a fusible link to the junction block on the right side of the firewall. Don't think it'll run without it. If it's the aforementioned purple wire then it goes through your clutch switch tot he ognition swotch and needs to be fixed too.

 

interestingly enough my clutch switch hasnt worked in a while, being that i dont need to step on the clutch to start it

ok guys so heres the update...... after testing components with a meter ie the distributor, starter, and ignition coil everything reads good. i also tested for spark using one of those ignition spark testers, and that turned out good.... so to narrow it down now, it has to do with the feed to the fuse box.

is there one or mulitple fusable links that power the fuse box?

where are they or where do i locate where the fuse block gets fed from?

 

According to the W/D you only have 2 fussible links. One is located between the junction block and the starter solenoid (as previously mentioned)The other is located between the generator (alternator) and your ignition switch. The wires for both are red and both the links are Rust colored. Rhis is all I have. When you check them for some reason they always burn on the sude towards a surface so you may not see the problem with one right off. Sirry, this is all I have for location. I think the one to the junction box feeds you fuse box.
