Default Please Help

hello all. i'm new to this forum and couldn't think of a better place to get some help for my 1994 chevy s-10 blazer. it's push button 4x4, if that helps any, 4.3 vortec. my problem is that when i start my truck cold and put it in reverse i have this god-awful rumble-roar from the rear. it also has a noticable roar when i put it in drive. now once the vehicle gets warm, one or two miles of driving, reverse and drive are fine andthe rumble-roar is gone. being as though i am not a car person i was wondering if anyone had any idea what this is. i don't want to be taken by a repair shop. thanks in advance

I am a bit time constrained at the moment and can only move this to the appropriate section so that you can get the help you need. I will reply back later when I can if someone else does not help out first.

I've seen them(94's) that when cold, mostly in reverse, the fan touches the fan shroud. Visually look at it -it should leave some evidence in it is indeed this. Just an initial wild guess based on the description you gave and a sound I didn't hear. JP[&o]

you are exactly right. that is what the sound is (the fan shroud) when i firststart the vehicle. i've checked that before but in addition there is also like a whine of the trans too. but nevertheless the sound in reverse is definately a different noise. i'm thinking that i need to change the fluid in the transfer case, but you tell me.

thanks

if noise in reverse(again I from here can't hear it!) drop the driveshaft(main one) and check the rearmost universal joint. Maybe we'll get lucky with that guess. I doubt the transfer case is the source on any noise especially if your not in four wheel drive as on a 94 that system is disabled in 2wd. Servicing the tranny-depending on mileage last done, may not be a bad idea-there are also additives that I'm sure the experts out here will chime in on for possibly lessening your noise(if indeed that is in the tranny). BTW-if there is a bad u joint replace it then test drive as it may be the source of all your Blazer issues! JP
