Question about replacing front prop/drive shaft 94 4x4 vortec 4.3 W
I am getting alot of vibration around 55mph and I am pretty sure it is my front prop shaft going from the transfer case to the front diff. I can shake the shaft and get movement out of the u joint going to transfer case. I am going to try greasing the shaft to see if that helps but if it doesn't I am wondering if I can just replace the u-joints on the shaft with a press or if I actually need to buy the entire new shaft? it's not too bad to replace them. i think those may have the plastic retainers you have to melt out. (or is that the rear)
anyway it should take about an hour $20 -$40 for the u-joint. couple of sockets, hammer, a vice and you should be good. don't forget to grease the new u-joint!

The front drive shaft should not be rotating when not in 4 wheel drive , the cv axles rotate , but unless you have all time 4 wheel drive it shouldn't be rotating . I have a 94 also and my drive shaft had to be heated in order to push the shaft back . But unless I'm missing something I really don't think thats the problem .

The front drive shaft u joints are not greaseable I think, I'm not talking about the half shafts, I am talking about the drive shaft that goes from the transmission to the front differential. I can shake it up and down and it has a decent amount of slop. I found u joints for the drive shaft but do i have a press on slip yoke seal or a screw on one? I have a 94 4x4 4.3W s-10 blazer. here is the link for them, U-Joint | 1994 Chevrolet S10 Blazer 4WD 6 Cylinders W 4.3L CPI | AutoZone.com
Can anyone describe to me how I change it out once I unbolt the shaft what do I press out or screw out? I have never delt with u-joints but I am sure it's not that hard once you do it.
I guess I must have missed the fitting when I was trying to grease the shaft, I will look again tonight.

I replaced mine with a ball joint press rented from auto zone and an impact wrench. Works awesomely! Definitely much easier then melting them out.

atvwarror is right it could be the half shafts or the ball joints.

Nope, I replaced the ball joints a few years ago and I know what a bad half shaft sounds like.
How do I know if I have a press on yoak seal or a screw yoak seal?
