I'm looking at a MDS 8.5mm Super Conductor set or Accel 8.8mm SPIRAL set.

Has anyone tryed any of these two? Is there better ones? (trying to start around $65 or lower) I'm running Pulstar Pulse plugs now. Also just ordered a Accel distrbutor. (don't know if that info matters)

 

I have always had good luck with Accel wires. I am not sure you will need the 8.8mm wires though. You should be just fine with 8mm wires.

Damn... Why cheap out on the wires when you spent so much already on the pulstar plugs?? You will have to let us know how well those plugs work out for you.

You really will not see much gain going with a larger diameter wire. The 7mm Belden Premiums have always worked great for me on these high energy ignition systems.

And to answer your question, the difference is in 0.8mm of insulation on the outside of the wire...

 

I can definitely feel a difference running the pulse plugs (before the pulse plugs I ran Accel shorty plugs). But for $24.99 a plug!!! I do have to say that I’ve had them since July of last year and had one go on me. However gave Pulstar a call and sent me a replacement. (They have a 50,000 mile guarantee, no questions asked)

I think I’m going with the Accel 8mm wires (I’m a poor college student, lol)

 

Having them that long, you should have a good handle on what gains you have realized, right?? Pulstar details gains in fuel mileage as a result of using their plugs. What kind of gain did you get? What are you comparing the gains to? How bad were your plugs prior to putting in these plugs?

To be honest, every review of them that included a dyno run resulted in such a negligible gain in power that it falls into the realm of dyno tolerance and definitely not enough to actually feel.

 

I'm comparing them to Accel shorty plugs(around 6,000 miles) i went from a high 16mpg combined to a solid 19mpg combined (18mpg to 21mpg highway). I can feel the added power when i step on it. I also tow a 21' boat a lot easier. (2500 lbs.)

For $24.99, i don't know if they were entirly worth it. Don't know if i'm going to be getting another set in 35,000 miles, unless they come down in price (9.99-14.99 a plug)

As for the added mpg, when i added the plugs the only other thing i changed was the wires.

 

I haven't heard good things about the Accel shorty plugs... I never liked Accel plugs in general in any of my old 350's.

Man, I would hope that a $25 plug would last a heck of a lot longer than 35k miles. You'd get much further with a good set of AC Delco Double Platinums.

 

there rated for 50,000+ miles i've put about 15,000 miles on them so far... so i figure in 35,000 miles it'll be time for replacement.

 

I'm certainly not against spending a little extra for better parts if it can be demonstrably justified, and uber-priced plugs might have use in high performance engines, but garden variety engines like the 4.3L don't seem to fall into that category. I will stick with the AC/Delco double platinums.
As for the wires I think the factory ones are 8mm and any good quality 8's should be fine.
