Default Muffler removal/replacement and off-road/mileage performance

*edit*
When i typed this message i had mixed up terms, what i am actually referring to is a removal of the muffler and replacing it with a piece of pipe.

Hi guys,

I have been searching for a while now, and i read quite a few posts and threads about the subjects of straight pipes vs Magnaflow vs Cherrybombs and the likes. I would love my V6 to actually make the subtle rumble it has a little more obvious (I know it is not a V8, but it has potential!) while having minimal effect on my mileage or engine performance.

*edit*
I forgot to mention, due to emission regulations i am hesitant to remove or gut my cat so the straight pipe will be run from the cat or as replacement for the muffler

I run a 1st gen '94 S10 4WD Blazer, engine code Z 4.3l

I read (could have read it wrong though) a straight pipe will effect the low-RPM end in terms of power, and torque while it also makes for a raspy rally/racecar sound in higher RPM's (which i'd like to avoid).

On the subject of mufflers such as a Magnaflow or Cherrybomb i could only find the difference it makes in sound and little about engine or mileage performance.

Does anyone here have experience with this which they like to share with me?

To give an indication of sound i would like to nudge it towards:

straight pipe will sound like no exhaust IMO
A cherry bomb will give a little bit better sound and a flow master slightly better

I suspect the flattened tailpipe at 3:30 may have been causing some of their run issues

I have had one with a cat, and now my current one came without one, I notice no difference between the 2. other than a more throaty sound, even with the stock muffler.
so if you added a flowmaster, it would sound real good.

but talking about removing a cat on the site is prohibited.

I might have worded it wrong

Removing or gutting my cat is illegal here because of emission laws.

I want to remove or replace my muffler but i am unsure if that messes with mileage or performance
