Default timing issue, it started, but now what

Ok so i have a 94 s10 blazer 4.3, I just did the head gaskets and went to time it and i got it to start by setting engine at tdc and then putting dizzy to number one. it started but its rough i still havent plugged in the wire under the dash though.

but awhile back i did the timing and the mark lined up with the timing tab when i used the timing light but now tdc has me set the crankshaft half way between the 2 marks. can it start if its off one plug. it started but it is running a lil rough.

and is the timing light useless on this type of vehicle?
