wheel cylinder removing

Default wheel cylinder removing

hey guys trying to get my wheel cylinders out on my 2dr 1990 s10 blazer can some one tell how to get them out i have to replace both and can't see what there are hook to to release them

They are held in place with a clip on the back side. If the backing plates rust out, the clip will not hold the cylinder in place. It will require replacing the backing plates.

A real common cause for the wheel cylinder to explode, is when the "lands" on the backing plate wear down from not being lubed regularly. The shoes will move inboard as the lands wear down. When they lose contact with the wheel cylinder pistons, they blow out. Put new cylinders on and the same thing happens, until you replace the backing plates.

if its not bolted threw the backing plate its held in with a round spring loaded clip
If I remember correctly there are two ears on the clip
The new wheel cylinder should come with a new clip


Back in the day the backing plates rotted away and allowed the wheel cylinder to twist in the backing plate
GM recalled due to this
If the wheel cylinder was not loose they installed a wrap around clamp that locked it in place
If they were "to loose" they replaced the backing plates and wheel cylinders
