i cant get it to shift out of park unless i manually overide it. also noticed that i have no brake lights. could it be the brake light switch under the steering column / thanks

What do you mean "manually overide"? Does the key switch turn smoothly? I don't know if I can go in reveres without my foot on the brake to tell you the truth.

If you have no brake lights, the switch under the dash would be the first place to look.
