1999 4X4 Operation
I am considering purchasing a 1999 Blazer LT 4X4 (68k) and am not sure of the proper procedure for engaging the 4 wheel drive. There are buttons for 2H, 4H, 4L, and Auto. When first started, the 2H light comes on. When I pressed the other buttons they would flash, but never go steady. The salesperson was no help and the owners manual is missing. Before I call it quits on this one, I need to make sure I'm doing it correctly.
Thanks

shift the truck into neutral, push the button, and then shift back into gear.

I wouldn't buy that Blazer until the Auto or 4HI light stayed lit. I don't think you really have to be in Nuetral unless you're shifting into 4LO. I've switched at stoplights in Drive, I'm pretty sure anyway.
I have a 99 Blazer LT, too. When mine did what you are describing it cost me about $700 for a new TCCM - Transfer Case Control Module.

Thanks, as I've searched through the forum it looks like it's fairly common to see this type of problem. Can somebody confirm what the 1999 owners manual says about 4X4 operation?

Like Bocomo said, don't buy it til it's fixed.
The mode shifts are shifts from 2HI to 4HI and 4HI to 2HI. A mode shift can be accomplished in any gear position and at any vehicle speed. If the system is in 2HI, the driver can shift into 4HI merely by pressing the 4HI shift select button. The 4HI button will blink status whenever a 2HI or 4HI shift is initiated and will continue to blink until the TCCM completes the shift. After the shift into 4HI is accomplished, the 4HI status lamp remains lit to indicate that the system is in 4HI.
There is a difference between when the TCCM sends voltage signals in order to engage a four wheel drive shift and when the vehicle is truly in four wheel drive. The transfer case can be shifted into 4HI and the front axle may not be engaged.
The driver can shift from 4HI back to 2HI by pressing the 2HI shift select button. The 2HI shift select button blinks until the shift to 2HI is complete. The 2HI shift select button will remain on once the shift is mechanically complete
