95 jimmy slt, 4.3 4x4 surges around 45 mph
Hello
I just bout the above mentioned Jimmy last week. it has 106K miles on it and looks fantastic. Bought it from elderly original owner. I have two problems, whether they are related, I do not know. When traveling about 45, the engines surges very noticible. Other than that, it starts fine runs fine etc. Also the 4x4 electronic buttons would not allow the transfer case to shift in to either 4hi or 4lo. My mechanic thought it was the switch, however changing it made no difference. Back to the surge, we took it to a reputable tranny shop and they think it might be the solinoid in the trans. prohibiting the converter from locking up..... He will try to fix it for $300, but no guarantee, he said it may need a whiole trans... Any ideas about this would be appreciated...sorry for my first post to be so long. Thanks.

Before you spend $300 on a guess with no guarantee, here are a few things to check:
Is the check engine light on? If so, have Autozone or Advance Auto retrieve the DTC's. Write them down in the order they are retrieved, and post them here.
Under the left side of the dash is a connector, (in plain view). Which one does yours look like?
Check fuel pressure and leakdown. Key ON, engine OFF, fuel pump running: pressure must be 55psi to 61psi and must remain above 50psi for 10 minutes after the pump shuts off.
At 100,000 miles, several maintenance items are due to be replaced:
Distributor cap & rotor, (AC Delco)
Spark plugs, (AC Delco CR43TS)
Spark plug wires
Fuel filter
Air filter
Oxygen sensors
Any one of these items could be causing your surge.
4WD problem could be any one of several things: Vacuum actuator under the battery, vacuum switch, encoder motor, etc etc. Check the forum, there are several threads on 4WD diagnosis.

Good advice....Check the Forum. I have found viable solutions to problems I've had plus posted some solutions to those that I was successful with. The 4x4 on mine was not working and it was a simple and cheap fix. Actually $0 dollars spent on 4WD repair that sounds like what may be your problem too.
