Default 98 Jimmy 4WD not working at all... 4WD lights work

Hi Everyone. I'm a newbie to this site. I must say there is the most info and advice on here that I have seen anywhere else on other sites. I must say, Icommend everyone on their sharing of their knowledge and experience!

Okay, I know this topic is beat like a dead horse, but I did a search and found MANY posts on this topic, but not the same as the problem I am having... Jeez, just put a fuel pump in this thing 2 weeks ago, now this...

This is a 19984DR Jimmy with push button 4WD. It doesn't have the auto trac. Just push button. Of course it happened in a blizzard. I tested it this fall, and it seemed to work fine. You can hear it clicking, so I would assume the actuator is okay, if that is what is clicking. The only other things it could be are bad vacuum line, or vacuum switch, correct? Or is there a electronic switchinstead. I can't remember. The switch goes all through the modes, just as it normally would. It will click, but not engage. I checked all the fuses, but of course, it couldn't be that simple... Is this t/case the ones before they started adding the encoder motors? I'm not sure...

Where do I start? Where do you start testing? Thanks for everyone's help in advance...

Sounds like my son's truck.

It is probably your vacuum actuator that engages your front wheels.

The click you are hearing as you press your buttons in the transfer case engaging. But that is only half the work to get it into 4wd.

You also need your front wheels to engage, which is what the actuator does.

Here is my easy and cheap how-to fix it.
