Default Rear Brake Drum Backing Plates for 1996 -- Out of Production

Hello Everyone,

My 1996 Blazer has almost 300k and the rear drum backing plates are completely worn out. I developed grooves in the contact points at about 200k and so I used a grinder to make the contact points smooth and flat. Now at 280k the grooves are back and they cause the rear brakes to grab and not release in a smooth way.

The original GM part numbers that I need are P/N 18012022 and 18012021. My dealer says that the parts are no longer available and he could not find them on nationwide search. Has anyone figured out a solution or found an aftermarket? Dorman makes the 1980's version but not the right version for 1996 with 4 bolt holes.

If I can't find the replacement part then I am going to take the old set to a machine shop and have the weld new contact points and grind everything smooth. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Mike
