Default Intake Gasket Set Pricing

Just wanted to pass along what I discovered in FelPro gasket sets with regards to the intake manifold set:

The complete FelPro set is MS98002T which Rock Auto sells for $56.79

But if one purchases FelPro set MS95817 ($24.89) and FelPro VS50464R ($11.11)...there is a nice savings over the complete kit and you get the same gaskets.

I do not know why the complete set costs more than the individual ones...perhaps someone knows more about this...please enlighten me.

Later.

The MS95817 is the OEM old style, "guranteed to leak" gaskets. They are installed to temporarily fix the leak so you can sell the vehicle. If you want to do the job the right way, and not have to do it over again, the MS98002T is the gasket to use. The difference in price reflects the quality of the gasket.

As Chuck has stated, get the MS98002T kit. This kit has the metal framed intake manifold gaskets that are a MUCH more robust design. MS95817 is still the old style plastic framed gaskets. I ran through this for someone else back in 2008.

*EDIT* - Figured it out. These aren't different PNs for this gasket 2wd vs 4wd, but rather different gaskets.

Fel-pro MS95817 - Plastic cage with overmolded o-ring for the lower intake manifold and includes all of the other seals/gaskets used on the intake.

Fel-pro MS98002T - as you can see, it includes everything that the previous set does plus the valve cover gaskets and seems to have a different overmolded o-ring material. Not sure, but looks to have a metal cage as well.

**Just did some more reading up on these and they sure do have a metal cage. These would be what I would recommend getting!! All of the short comings of the factory gasket have been addressed in this gasket. You should have no other problems after correctly repaired with these gaskets!

I installed the MS95817 set on my Bravada when I did this repair. I never knew of the option for a metal cage... Would have used the MS98002T if I had known about it back then! LOL

Thanks for the additional information between the gasket sets.....I was sure hoping there was a reason for the large price difference.

Better yet....can someone just delete this posting...that way no one is mis lead and gets the plastic el-cheapo ones.

that will learn them for not reading the entire post LOL

I rember years ago chysler had heaps of issues with head gaskets on their 2.2 and 2.5 motors
It got to the point where they slashed the cost of their gaskets
Guys only lifted the head enough to slip out the old gasket and slide in a new one
No cleaning the gasket surfaces , no checking for a warped head
I heard of guys blowing the head gasket again in just a short time
