hello, i was just thinking my 2002 extreme blazer i was going to remove the cat , i had the flowmaster dual pipes on it, and i wasnt sure if it will flow better with no cat or am i going to run into problems with the o2 ? will i even feel a change in this 4.3 without it? i only have about 80k miles on it, i was also thinking on getting the high flow cat to stick on it, any input on this ? thanks

 

Took the one off my 93. But it had no sensors after the cat. No issues here

 

If it STAYS tuned properly, it won't matter. But if the burn changes because of a problem, you could get a light for that, AND, a light for cat failure (to 'clean up' the bad burn results).

 

do you know if if you feel a change if it was done? and how does the exhaust sound after its done, right now with the flowmaster and duals out the rear it still has no sound.

 

is there a way around the o2 sensor behind the cat?

 

PCM tune to remove the codes for that sensor.

 

I hacked my catalytic converter off and welded a straight pipe in place of it. Also put a glasspack muffler in place of the stock muffler. I'll tell you, I DID notice a huge difference in my power/Torque. In other words, it ZOOMS. lol As for the o2 sensor. My honey comb in my cat broke loose and hit the o2 sensor behind the cat and it doesn't work and throws a code. Other than that, everything runs amazing. If anything removing the cat was the best thing i've done to my truck.

 

As with any repair, if you had faulty/defective components and replaced them with anything that was actually working properly, you will see gains. I doubt you are all that much faster than a stock truck over all and are likely slower off the line.

 

You're right, I just haven't noticed how my truck should've been running for the past 15,000 miles, I never said I was faster than anyone or better than a stock vehicle. Me personaly, noticed a differance before and after. Didn't say It would affect anyone elses truck the same.

 

I have no cat on my Blazer. As far as low end torque goes, I'd put money on me matching any 4 door Blazer with K&N CAI and Dynomax catback in 60ft times. In other words, I don't think it affects the low end near as much as people think.


edit: I pulled mine out because I thought it was bad. It wasn't.
