Change the rear Drum Brakes into Disc Brakes
Hallo to everybody.
My question today is, that my baby seems that it take a long way that he will stopped when i will push the brakes. At the moment the Situation is, that I have in the front the Original one Disc Brake and in Rear the drum Brake. So for now i plan to change something.
In the front i want to change the Disc into High Performance Discs and in rear i want to remove the drums into disc's also.
so can you give me please some Details in your Opinion witch Brakes will be perfect for my Plan and it is possible to change the Drums in rear into disc.
it will helpful when somebody can give ma Link or a Homepage where i can order or see what i have to do to change them from Drum to Disc.
At the moment I order from Rockauto and JcWhitney. Maybe Somebody can post some Ideas that i know that those parts will work on my baby.
Thaks alot to everybody from germany.

The easy and cost effective way for the rear is to go to a junkyard and find a rear axle with discs and the correct gears. Not sure if you will have much luck with that in germany though lol.
However, they do make conversion kits but they are very costly, a pain to do and IMO not worth it. A properly maintained rear drum is effective at stopping. The front does the bulk of the stopping power anyway. I don't have any experience with "high performance" rotors for the front s I can't help you much there. But if it were me, I would try them, make sure the rear drums aren't on there way out and save my money for something else rather than convert the drums to disc.

agreed keep the drums replace or rebuild the wheel cylinder new shoes and new drums and you'll get years out of a set of drums not worth the hassle and money to convert

also on my current 86 1 ton chevy pick up i replaced the drums for discs cause the drums are friggin gigantic and it stopped 3 times better with the drums until i eventually had to change the master cylinder. not sure if its the same issue with s10s
but going from them little bitty wheel cylinders to huge calipers requires a bit more fluid pushing

yeah i had a 84 k5 blazer with the factory set up. drums out back and discs up front, new everything and that thing would lock up 38 inch tires.

Had 2nd gen disks on the rear of my blazer and I did notice they locked up better than the factory drums.
When I put hydrobooster on it I really had to have a light touch. First time out on that I blew the old rubber hoses. I would think even keeping the drums that alone would make it stop better/faster.
