Do you by chance have a cell phone service with direct connect? If so turn your radio off before you start your truck and see if it goes away. Strange but my Nextel clicks through my radio sometimes for no reason. Or at least I always thought it was the radio.

lol Mine does that too. It's on the same frequency rating as most receivers so yea. Thats basically Radio waves coming into your cell antenna and the speakers pic those waves up. It's weird lol

RE: Clicking noise behind glovebox
My 1st time posting on this great forum. 2001 S10 V6-4.3lt 4x4 LT I solved the clicking noise behind the glove box by replacing the multifunction switch (MFS)on the steering column. There was a recall on certain model years for an open circuit in these (sometimes faulty switchs) I found a new/used one at a junk yard for $80. No easy fix though. There three screws holding the steering column plastic cover on. The last one is up under the upper plastic covering piece near the ignition switch. The plugs that connect the multifunction switch are a real bear to get off. Take your time!! and carefully work off the spade connectors for each wire. The long, blackplug is fragile. A small screw driver will be invaluable to carefully lift each female spade connector from each spade. Forget trying to remedy the open circuit causing the flasher relay to click all day. Openning this MFS is like opening the biggest can of electrical worms you ever hoped to see. Just get a used one if you're adventurous or take it to the shop and brace yourself for a $400 bill. GMC to their credit offered to help with the cost when I called their main customer service center. I pointed out that the recalled vehecle had the same problem and the same switch as my 2001. Now that I have it all back together, the car fires but won't start so I'm off to another corner of the forum.

Are you leaking any coolant? Had a simular problem , it was the water pump, and the heater making the noise

While I am glad to hear from Sailor on his experience fixing this problem, the rest of this thread is well over 2 years old. No one is actively pursuing help on this issue any longer. And if they are, they should post a new thread.
