Hey guys, just a few questions

1. What is the most common cause of the Passlock/Security failure? From what I've been reading it's either the ignition switch or the key cylinder. I'm curious because I would like to fix this rather than buy a new car.

2. Would the GM relearn procedure be able to fix it with out having to install new parts? As just a way to kinda get by for a while?

My problem has been going on for quite sometime now. Just looking for some clues. Much appreciated.

For anyone who's curious:
1999 Chevy Blazer 4WD, 4.3L

 

Typically this is caused by a failed passlock sensor itself. But if the key is sloppy in the lock cylinder, it could cause the condition.

If you have run through the typical relearn procedure and it has not helped, the next step may be the forced relearn with a Tech 2 scan tool.
