Question Disabling Radio On Until Opening Door Feature....Possible??

As the title states. Wondering if there is a way to disable the feature where the radio stays on until you open the door after the ignition is shut off?

This is on a 2004 Blazer.

The Retained Accessory Power feature is controlled by the Body Control Module. It has to be disabled through programming. I've unplugged the chime on every vehicle I've owned except the 2000 jimmy for the same reason. You maybe could trick it by altering a door switch but it would probably give you alarm problems.

Yes, it is as easy at that but I like to be able to control what a vehicle does if possible.

You could connect the radio power wire to something that is only on with ignition on maybe the fan power. This aftermarket or stock radio?

If you don't mind me asking Why? Have to say that you are the 1st person I have seen ask this...most want to convert TO the radio stays on till the door is open

I do not have a 2004 wiring diagram, but the diagram found in the ignition switch article linked to in my signature below is for a 2000 and it shows the power side of the RAP circuit. If you remove the RAP fuse, you would lose power seat functions, but if you remove the RAP relay and jumper from pin 30 to pin 87A (or rather the cavities in the body relay center corresponding to pin 30 and pin 87A), it should remove the RAP function while still allowing those systems to operate normally while the key is in the RUN or ACC positions.

Alternatively, you could bend pin 85, pin 86, or pin 87 to disable the relay from providing retained accessory power to those circuits.

But that would completely disable RAP, not just the radio. So if you wanted the power windows to continue to function until you opened the door, this would not work for that purpose. That would require re-wiring the radio functions (radio & steering wheel controls) to bypass the RAP relay. It could be done, but is more involved.
