door hinge spring
Hey all
I have 2 questions but since they are not related I'll start 2 threads. If this is inappropiate please combine them.
Changing the left front door hinge pin, the book says to use the special tool to remove the door spring. The special tool for removing the spring ended up being a pry bar. The problem is it doesn't work for putting the spring back in. I went to the auto parts store and they never heard of such a tool.
So does anyone have any tips on how to get the spring back in place. I'd hate to go to a dealer for this.
Info: 1995 Blazer LT, 4 Door 4WD, Auto, 160,000 mi, 4.3L type W Vortec engine
Thanks
Mike

It's called a 'Light Truck Door Hinge Spring Compressor'. "door+spring+compressor" will give you the pertinent details. Specifically this thread--> PSA Door Spring Tool

big ziptie, compress the spring in a vice and then do up the ziptie to hold the spring compressed, put the spring in place in the hinge and cut the ziptie.
just a thought, ive never replaced mine but thats more or less how a spring compressor works.
for suspension they use big u bolts.

Those better be some strong zip ties! I used wire and it still took a few tries to get it to stop breaking the wire.
Best to just get the proper spring compressor. Its safer that way!
