Engine died while driving
Hi,
I got in my 99 Blazer the other day, turned it on and drove 100 metres at about 20mph, when out of nowhere the engine stopped. It was just like the key had been turned off (but it hadn't).
I tried to start it again, but no luck. It was cranking but wouldn't start. I could hear the fuel pump working for 2 seconds when I turned the ignition.
I tried to start it once or twice each day for the next 2 days, and still the same, just cranking but no start.
My next thing to do was get my hands on a fuel pressure gauge, but on the 3rd day I thought I would give it another try. I turned the key, and it started!
A bit of possibly useless information:
(I hadn't used the truck very much the 6 weeks prior to this, and 1 week prior to it I came to it and it had a flat battery. I charged it up and it was fine. After the engine died, I didn't want to risk the battery was dodgy, so I bought a new one).
Since the engine started, I have driven it every other day and I haven't had an issue.
The only other thing that may be a factor is the week the engine cut out, it had been raining heavily non stop, the day the engine started, it had stopped raining. It is winter for me now, and so is cold and damp.
Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar issue last month. Try cleaning the contacts on your fuel pump relay with a wire brush (far left relay in the passenger glove-box). I also sprayed the relay socket with electronics cleaner because I couldn't get a brush in there to clean those contacts, but I doubt this did anything significant. The corrosion was bad enough to keep the relay from activating the fuel pump. Now the contacts are nice and shiny.
I got in a hurry and went so far as to drop the tank and pull the fuel pump out before I realized the pump was perfectly fine and there was no voltage at the harness...
I still have random stall issues while driving on hot afternoons (probably ignition switch, not sure yet). 97 blazer.

Well it happened again on a wet and damp day. I checked the lead from the coil to the cap, and the entire connection on the coil had completely broken down and rusted!
So I ordered a new ac delco coil, lead and plug set and installed the coil and that has fixed it!

I think I fixed mine, too.
New Ignition Control Module ($55 for el-cheapo carquest brand). Put in a new coil while I was at it for $30, but I think the ICM was my issue.
The factory thermal grease was severely cooked/degraded on the back of the ICM. I'm pretty sure the ICM was overheating and tripping out.
