just read the directions and check out the pictures everything you will need is in this thread its on top of the rearmost crossmember on the drivers side, trust me its there, i had to use a pocket mirror to actually see it but you can see the bolt for the sp423 very easily under the truck you will just be looking at the bottom of the bolt, just look at those pics i put up and you can see the bolt's location.

jonas, i checked 1 of my resources and it looks like the ground for your 1997 year truck has the egr, fuel tank pressure sensor, map sensor, iat sensor, and the transmission fluid temperature sensor all come together at connector s102, and the ground supply that feeds all of these components at this s102 connector is actually supplied by the vcm (not the ecm), so i'm almost positive IF you actually are having a egr ground problem it will be right where all of these grounds for these components meet, if you are having trouble finding it,just follow the black wire coming out of the egr valve, its designated name is BLK 450 and it is used for all of the above listed components.

I have been trying to find what my problem was since Nov 2009 and changed my alternator at the same time you did to try fix it but still did not help. I have been experienceing eratic misfiring esspecially when the weather was very cold, and my intake air temp sensor was always reading way way to cold. this did not get better after changing all ignition components multiple times. Today I had to change my gas tank after a few months of leaking fuel lol and while i had the tank out i took some pictures to really show where the wires are. After taking the grounds off an cutting and recrimping new conectors and cleaning off the cross member very well till it was fully bare i remounted the grounds and fuel filler strap and tada my truck is like a new beast im so happy u found this cause i would have never thought.

Heres a pic of the splice pack and ground

Good for you Davec!!!! I'm so glad i was able to help you find your problem!!! It still makes me very happy to help others like me that have almost impossible problems to find and fix, you know i keep wondering just how many thousands of people out there have this same sputtering, jerking issue that just need to get to this sp423 and fix it, believe me there is a pile of people out there with this problem because i hunted ALL the forums i could find and nobody has been able to nail it, but i chose this forum to put my research and findings and repair resolutions on because the administrators and moderators seem to care and reply back to people and they are very knowledgeable about these trucks, and it seems the users also reply back often also, unlike all the other forums out there, so i felt that it would catch more people and help them in dire need to get their ride working properly again, after all isn't this what it's all about?

GOOD JOB!!! It kinda makes you wanna go to the nearest parking lot and burn a tire right of the rim right?
