Default Fuel Sending unit

hey all my fuel sending unit is bad..my gas gauge keeps floppin all over...and i have a quick question , well 2 actually.

1. Do those new sending units that r on ebay really work?

2. how difficult of a job is it to replace my old one with a new one?

i know the tank needs to be removed..and all that just wondered how difficult it really could be. thanx in advance

On your year model I believe the fuel pump and sending unit only come as a one piece item. If you go for the cheap one you'll wind up replacing it sooner than a genuine GM pump. As for dropping the tank, there are a lot of threads on here explaining how to do it.

I think there is a separate sending unit available for you. The cost is not that bad, but the labor is the same as replacing the full pump.

Item Price Core Total
ACDELCO Part # SK1186 {#19121293}
SENSOR KIT,FUEL LVL 4 DOOR; w/o SENDER,ROBUST FUEL SYS (K53)

$77.79 $0.00 $77.79
ACDELCO Part # SK1188 {#19121300}
SENSOR KIT,FUEL LVL 2 DOOR; w/o SENDER,ROBUST FUEL SYS (K53)

$82.79 $0.00 $82.79
Now those prices are probably pretty old, but they are still be valid PNs.

YES, Kyle is right, but if you have higher miles, and have not replaced your fuel pump, you might want to consider just replacing the whole assembly. My fuel gauge has been acting up now foe 3 years, and I am just waiting to replace the pump at the same time. Hoping to get to 90k before I do!! Good luck either way you go

I would, why go through all the trouble to pull the tank to put the sensor in, then to fill up to check your gauge, then when you go to start it, it won't start because the pump has failed with a full tank of gas!! Well that would be my luck anyway!! LOL!! So if it lasts to 90K I will be replacing all the parts in there, so I don't need to worry!! Good luck either way you choose to go!!
