Only the 98+ trucks have an underhood fuse box.

Test for continuity between from the connector at the VSS to the other end of the wires at the PCM. They are on connector 1, pins 29 (light green with black stripe) and 30 (purple with white stripe).

You didn't happen to pinch the harness between the engine & transmission did you? That has come up a few times here.

yes i checked for pinching, i will now check the continuity per your instructions

i hope this will work! i really appreciate all your help, you really know your stuff!

ok now when i check for continuity on those wires the multimeter beeps when i touch either wire. i have it hooked up to the green wire and it beeps when i touch pin 29 and 30 and vice-versa with the purple wire.

does that mean the wires are touching somewhere?

That means that there is continuity across the VSS sensor itself which is good. There needs to be around 1700-2400 ohms resistance across those wires. Check that next. Then, there should be a few volts AC voltage when you rotate the driveshaft (truck in the air on jack stands).

BTW, please do not respond multiple times in a row. Quick, consecutive posts is prohibited by the rules of the forum (rule #4). Post back when you have results and/or a new question and wait for a response. If you need to ask another question and another member has not yet replied, please edit your post. If you have waited for ~24hrs without getting a response, it is then permissible to post again.

i have the meter touching the green wire and it beeps when i touch both pins 29 and 30. same for when i'm checking the purple wire both pins beep. does that mean the wires are touching somewhere?

ok when checking for the ohm output i check it at the vss contact pins right? i had it set at 2k and it read 1,300.
