Default Help with whole in brake line out in northern maine woods.

We are on vacation right now in northern maine and we blew a hole in the brake line going to the back brakes today. The hole is right under the drivers seat on the frame. The brake line looks pretty rusted on that side. we are pulling a camper so I have to fix this before we go home next week. There is an automotive parts store about 25 miles away but the closest repair shop is over 120 miles away. So I need to repair this out in the woods. I have alot of tools that I keep with me. My question is should I replce the whole brake line from the master cylinder to the junction tee on the rear axle or would it be ok to cut out the rusted area and just replace that piece. The store does have a flare tool for brakes.

if i were you i would replace the line fron the coupler behind the driver side wheel well to the rear flex hose but only if you can get a pre-flared line that long, if you cant then i would just cut the bad out and flare in a repair piece. have a fun vacation

I clamped a brake line with vice-grips once to get out of the woods.

Easiest to get pre-flared lines and a coupling. The line from the master cylinder to the coupling under the driver's door is usually not too badly rusted. Also check the lines from the rear junction T to each wheel. If they look bad, they're probably near the end of their life.

You'll have to bleed the brakes, you know? A hand vacuum pump is like $30 at NAPA, but you need a dealer to do it with techII scanner to get the ABS purged. If you're lucky, the parts store might have one-way speed bleeders.
