Default Oil Pressure Gauge... HELP!

I just purchased a 2002 Chevy Blazer with roughly 33,000 miles. I noticed the other day that the Oil pressure gauge goes up and down as I accelerate and decelerate. The gauge ranges from about 20 up to 60 and stay around 40 most of the time, is this normal or do I have a problem?

I beleive you might have a faulty guage. if you want to be sure you have to install a master guage.

Oil Pressure - Minimum

at Normal Operating Temperature
42 kPa at 1,000 RPM (6 psi at 1,000 RPM)

at Normal Operating Temperature
125 kPa at 2,000 RPM (18 psi at 2,000 RPM)

at Normal Operating Temperature

166 kPa at 4,000 RPM (24 psi at 4,000 RPM)

Yup, perfectly normal. As the RPMs increase, the pressure will increase to a certain degree. 60psi is completely normal as is 20psi at idle when cold.

Normal.

THINK about it:

- Engine go faster. Oil pump turn faster. More oil pressure.
- Engine go slower. Oil pump turn slower. Less oil pressure.
- Oil be cold. Oil be thick and hard to pump. Oil pressure be higher.
- Oil get hot. Oil get thinner. Oil pressure drop slightly.

I use the rule: minimum is 10 PSI of oil pressure per 1000 RPM. Most stock V8 engines top out about 40-50 PSI oil pressure.

You have no problem.
