Default Removing parking brake handle

I hope this isn't too dumb a question! I need to install the brake controller for towing my trailer. In order to do this I need to get under the dash and at the wiring to the the brake at the pedal.. The emergency brake release handle has no obvious way of being secured to the shaft, ie: set screw. So how do I remove it without breaking something in the process?

Thanks for your help.

Not vehicle specific, as I don't know yours, but:

I'm not sure you want to remove it from the "shaft" (usually a cable). What makes you think you want to? Removing the bracket that holds it in place may make it free swinging to allow access to wahtever you're trying to get to.

The handle is attached to a hexagonal shaft, not cable, which goes through a small opening in the cover. The cover protects the underside of the dash. I guess I could remove the screws and let it hang but it will be very awkward to work under there with the cover taking up so much space. There is no way to remove the bracket as that is under the cover also.

Get behind the dash and follow the cable, there will be a point where you can unhook it allowing you to take the dash piece and brake lever out. I think it was around 8"-12" of cable before the connection. Just stick your head under there with a flashlight and you should see what I am talking about.
