I have tried to replace the fuse on the courtesy lights but it continues to blow. I know I must have a short so I was wondering if anyone has experienced this condition and was able to fix it without having to take it to the dealer. The dealer wants $85.00 per hour to find the short and I make $12.00 per hour so the disparity warrants trying to fix it myself.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I had the same issue when I first got my blazer. It would blow that fuse almost weekly. I bought a bag of fuses because I wasn't about to try and find the short.

Hasn't done it in now almost 2 years. Its another blaze quirk.

I bought a boat load but I can't even put it in the holder without blowing. I tried even disconnecting the battery and putting the fuse in but as soon as I try to hook up the battery the negative cable arcs and blows the fuse. Thanks for getting back. Hopefully someone out there has another solution.

 

Check the visor mirrors, I know those tend to cause some issues...

Below is a attachment of the wiring for a 1998 blazer. since you dont say what year yours is ill go with that. Its a bit fuzzy for some reason as when i printed it to pdf i cant do anything about that.

First assume all wires are good and check every light and switch that is connected to the courtesy fuse. They are showed in orange on the diagram. Unplug the lights or switches until you find your problem. Start with the easy ones and move on to the hard ones. Always though when troubleshooting electrical problems keep it simple and assume wires are good until all others are proven good. Unfortunately for you that circuit goes to lots of things and can be a pain to troubleshoot.

 

Thank you so much and for some lame brain reason I didn't put the year down, it is a 2002. I plan to work on it this morning so I will let you know how it goes.

I pulled all the bulbs to see if getting all of the circuits undone would at least allow me to insert a fuse to let me test the circuit. Even with all the bulbs pulled the fuse still blew. I put in a 20 amp fuse so I could test but it was warm so I pulled it so I wouldn't cause anyother issues. I still am in a pickle with this short. The dealer said they have a test that will help them find the short but even with that they said it may take a couple hours, it might be the only way.

 

Here is a tool that i have and it works. But any short can be a pain in the **** to find. Anyway you take the circuit breaker included in the kit and install it across where the fuse would go. It will constantly reset itself and allow you to look for the short with the gauge too they supply. You move that tool along wires and and switches that are listed in the wiring diagram and it will move if it gets to where the current is flowing to ground.

 

try checking for a bare wire behind your ashtray. I had this prob on my 96 and that solved my problem. hope this helps ya.
