Even though it's a major **** off & most have to find out the hard way, you're absolutely right Captain Hook. Although I still have to ask, just what SOB developed this crap??? Totally unexpected cluster when buying these type of Blazers

ive been doing lots of reading up on this and there is another way ... but you need two special tools to open the accumulator valves when bleeding...they are $25 each

That's fine on 95 OBDI and older with a 12 pin ALDL connector. It will give you the 2 digit DTC's. 1996 OBDII and newer have a 16 pin data link connector. If you jump pins in that connector, you're liable to see some magic smoke You need to use a scan tool that is capable of communicating with the EBCM to retrieve the 4 character DTC's starting with "C". The scan tool must be capable of initiating the automated bleed.

The system in the article refers to the old style ABS system. There are two bleeder screws on the ABS module. The procedures described for retrieving DTC's and bleeding are correct for that system.

The procedures in the article will not work on the newer ABS system. The EBCM does not have bleeder screws. It requires the automated bleed if/when air enters the EBCM: (ie. master cylinder runs dry or is replaced, lines are replaced between the master cylinder and the EBCM, or the EBCM is replaced.

Two completely different systems with two completely different sets of diagnostics, bleeding, & DTC retrieval procedures.

You know I've wondered that... Why can't it be bleed? The ABS I have has 5 Bleeder screws on it (itself) What are they for...

yours must be a 310 module, in 2000 they started switching to the 325 which does not have those bleeders

Is there a way to know if a particular scantool can do the automated bleed before you buy? or are the only 'capable' scantools the ones that are bought as part of one's profession or expensive hobby?

Scan tools must have bi-directional capabilities to initiate the automated bleed. Sometimes you can find decent used ones on Ebay for ~$2K, (Snap on Solus & Solus Pro, etc). If you go that route, make sure it has the proper software level to accomodate the model year you're working on, (annual updates are $1K). Once the scan tool is connected, and the vehicle specifics are entered, the procedure takes all of about 45 seconds to complete.
