Default Timing Cover Installation process

So I got the TC of and I am trying to reinstall it. I as you may imagine am running into some issues. I read in the Haynes manual that only the front bolts need to come out but I've read on the forum that the whole pan needs to be loosened. I have also read that in order to loosen the pan you have to remove the engine. Seeing as how I dont have the necessary tools to remove the engine nor have the desire to do so. I also do not have a grinder to remove the lip.

Is there a way to do this task without having to remove the engine I am comfortable with removing the bolts to loosen the pan and would rather not have to remove the engine.
