Default Trailer and Hitch

I was wondering if any one could tell me if I have a wiring harness for towing a trailer on my 2000 Trailblazer (not blazer). I have a spot on my rear bumper for a trailer ball, but I cannot see if I have a wiring Harness. Does anyone have an answer?? And if so what it may look like??

This is taken right out of the owners manual. You will have to add a connector ( 4 pin flat or 7 pin round ) depending on what you are trailering. Anything over 1000 lbs. requires brakes which is a whole other thing to think about
"The harnesses are stored
under the vehicle, along the passenger
-side frame
crossmember on two
-door vehicles or on the driver’s
side corner frame rear crossmember on four
-door
vehicles."

I believe I found the wiring under my rear crossmember on the driver's side. It is a small piece of plastic, looks like a 4 pin. Correct me if im wrong?

As the 2000 Trailblazer is just a trim package on a Blazer, you do indeed have a Blazer. As such, it is in the same location as it is on any other s-series suv, tucked up into the rear most cross member.

Now, your RPO codes will tell you whether you have the light duty harness or the heavy duty harness. If you have the factory 2" receiver hitch, you should have the HD harness, but that doesn't always hold true.

I was working on my trailer wiring tonight and noticed a spot for a ball on the rear bumper... i also have a hitch installed... is the 5000lb weight limit based on the bumper hitch or is that just for the whole package? I could save a few bucks not having to buy a receiver for the ball and just screw it into the bumper if that's not going to rip my bumper off

If you have a receiver hitch, don't even bother with the bumper. The bumper doesn't carry that heavy of a load rating. Plus it'll probably be too high, making the trailer slope backwards.
