trailer hitch
i have a 99 jimmy 2d 4x4 and i want to put a reciever hitch on it, not sure how much towing i will even do, i may put a rack on it for bikes or something but i havnt decided. how do i determine what class of hitch to buy is there a guide to it, or what would the factory hitch be rated at so i can compare ? i found a class 5 hitch on craigslist for $35 in my area, and a class 4 almost new one for $100. but are those too heavy if i dont even own a trailer i just want to be able to tow if i need to?

Put on the class III.These units are rated to (supposedly) pull a 5,000 lb wagon,But I don't believe the trans or the suspension would stand up to anything other than very occaisonal towing. These are not tow rigs! Too small & too light;too vulnerable to wind issues as well-much over 3,000 and that trailer will be commanding the car! As a class A CDL driver,I have found these units fine for a small load on a temporary basis only! Oh,and always keep your gear selector in 3 while pulling a wagon:NEVER O/D! Too much heat generation in the trans otherwise! Good luck!
