View Full Version : gauges? agent305 04-11-2007, 10:33 PM hi, i dont know if im puttin this in the right place....but does anyone know who makes these gauge overlay? http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/1678/2ec61hd1.jpg rabbit0102030 04-11-2007, 10:39 PM Nu Image and APC seem to be the main suppliers of gauge overlays for the S-10 and blazer. Try one of those guys sites and see if you can find them there. I know for a fact that Nu Image makes that same exact look except in blue, so they may possibly be the company who make the one in the photo. agent305 04-11-2007, 10:56 PM yea they do look like nu image, but like you said... i could only find them in blue. usually nu image got there name stamped in the middle of the tach but on that i cant see anything speeddemon560 04-11-2007, 11:16 PM I saw those gauges on eBay too. Anyway, I have no idea who makes them. I've only ever seen blue aftermarket gauges before. Mine are Nu Image Platinum gauges, they're sick. Check 'em out (http://s168.photobucket.com/albums/u167/speeddemon560/Interior/?action=view&current=Dashboard2.jpg). rabbit0102030 04-12-2007, 01:05 AM They may be a discontinued product. I will do some research and find out who makes them and where you can get them. hillbillyinOhio 04-12-2007, 01:51 AM here is what i found on ebay. CLICK ME!! (http://motors.search.ebay.com/blazer-white-face-gauges_W0QQfromZR8QQsamcmZ6000QQsaspiZ2) agent305 04-12-2007, 11:57 AM thanks, so far im goin with the nu image platinum unless i can find the red ones. thanks for all the help rabbit0102030 04-12-2007, 12:30 PM Well, go with the Platinum Series by Nu Image.....APC was the manufacturer of the set in your attatchment, and they no longer make it. They only make it with the blue backlight now. I think the Platinum Series is much sharper looking anyway so good choice! agent305 04-12-2007, 12:33 PM yea i think im gonna. i really like the nu image ones. thanks! rabbit0102030 04-12-2007, 12:47 PM No prblem bro, that is what I'm here for! Be sure to get some pics up when you get them installed so we can see the mean, clean look they will give your dash! EuroGoldLS 04-13-2007, 11:54 AM The red one look great, but from my experience with EBay, I think it is a custom product. Anyway, how do you go about installing gauge overlays? Is there a way to get to it w/o removing the dash? Ive never been much of an interior mechanic, I mostly work on the Intake/Exhaust or Lighting hockeykid15 04-13-2007, 11:58 PM i dont think there is... at least not one that i have found. but its not too hard. there are 2 screws that are on the upper part of the dash and the rest of it should just pop off. takes about 5 minutes speeddemon560 04-14-2007, 12:56 AM It's really easy to install the white faced gauges. hillbillyinOhio 04-14-2007, 01:16 AM it depends on what year truck you have. if 95-97, a pita, two 7mm screws above steering wheel. rest just unclips, have to unplug allt he harnesses on left side, unplug 4wd harness. then drop steering wheel all the way down, flex the part of the dash bezel that goes over top of the steering column, up over the hazard switch. then its just 4 screws holding the cluster in. mark the position of all of the needles on your cluster at idle, that way you can line them up right when you put the new overlay on. If you have a 98 up blazer, one screw above column, two or three screws under column (holding knee bolster up. unclip all harnesses from dash bezel as you remove it. JST4SHO 04-14-2007, 11:46 PM do you have to mark the needles at idle-or can you just do it with the truck off and the put needles back on bottom-zero? speeddemon560 04-15-2007, 12:06 AM You HAVE to mark the needles at idle. Seriously, it takes about 30 seconds. Draw a rough picture of the gauges on a peice of paper, start up the car, and mark where the needles are. The rpms should be around 900, voltage around 13 (halfway), temp (low, unless you just drove it), oil (i dont know), gas (whatever it is), and speedometer (0). Then when you have the paper with the proper position of the needles, then you remove the gauge cluster (follow the instructions someone else posted). Just make sure to remove the 4 needle stops for the tachometer and speedometer before you remove the stock gauge face, then install the new gauge face and make sure the odometer stick is in first (whatever it's called). Then put the needle stops back in. Then just take the cluster out to the truck and plug it back in without the clear, protective cover on it. Then start up the truck. Then put the needles back on where there were as shown on the sheet. Then turn off the truck and unplug the cluster again. Snap the clear, protective cover back in place and reinstall the cluster. Then put the dash back together, and yahoo, you're done. If you don't have a tach, then you still need to remove the 2 needle stops for the speedometer before you remove the stock gauge face. hockeykid15 04-15-2007, 02:46 AM ok i am thinking of getting some white face guages too but i dont have a tac. so i would just make everything else right? speeddemon560 04-15-2007, 02:51 AM The instructions the same for gauges with a tach or not, just if you have a tach, you need to make sure to mark the needle position and to remove the 2 needle stops when installing the gauge face. TonyOneX 04-15-2007, 06:47 AM So if you don't have a Tach, like on the 95 Blazers, The gauge face will still fit.. ? speeddemon560 04-15-2007, 01:49 PM yup. You just need to make sure you buy the gauges without a tach. Just look on eBay and you'll find one. davtak 04-16-2007, 01:29 AM While we are on the subject, I have some white face gauges for my 2000. I have a pic in my photo gallery if you want to see. I haven't installed them yet, I got as far as getting the gauges on, but couldn't figure out where to wire them in. I asked someone who told me a way to do it, but what I was wondering if I could do, I wanted to wire them in to the wire that so when I turn my headlights on, the white face gauges go on. My question is which wire on the harness for the cluster do I splice the red wire into for the gauges. The black wire is obvious, ground, duh! speeddemon560 04-16-2007, 01:33 AM ORIGINAL: davtak While we are on the subject, I have some white face gauges for my 2000. Did the gauges you buy come with wires and a power inverter and all that stuff? Or is it simply the gauge overlay. *confused* davtak 04-16-2007, 02:28 PM The package contained the gauges, the wires, and a box that has the switch to change them from blue to green and the brightness dial. I'm on break at work right now, so I will take pic if needed when I get home tonight. speeddemon560 04-16-2007, 08:08 PM ORIGINAL: davtak The package contained the gauges, the wires, and a box that has the switch to change them from blue to green and the brightness dial. I'm on break at work right now, so I will take pic if needed when I get home tonight. Sounds like a fun project. Lol! You only need the gauge faces because the stock lighting is more than bright enough to shine through the new gauges and illuminate them. If you really want to install different lights with the dial, then go ahead. I have no idea how to the wires and stuff; hillbillyinohio probably knows, since he knows electronics. Good luck! agent305 04-16-2007, 10:31 PM usually, you wire aftermarket gauges to your dimmer wire. so they dim with the dimmer switch like the factory ones do davtak 04-18-2007, 02:34 AM which wire is that? what color is it? are you sure b4 I start haking wires? rabbit0102030 04-18-2007, 11:34 AM Dave, honestly, I would have them installed by a pro. You know my story on things that can get messed up in the dash! They will have the proper tools to disassemble everything, and install the gauges correctly. I'm having the dealership do mine, they quoted $150. I think that is a fair price for me not having to get involved! speeddemon560 04-18-2007, 08:04 PM ORIGINAL: rabbit0102030 Dave, honestly, I would have them installed by a pro. WHAT?!?! $150 to install just the gauge face overlay or to install the gauge face overlay and wire it up to the dimmer and different coloredlights like davtak's? LORCLAS 04-18-2007, 08:46 PM Here is mine. Just finished it. :D http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t149/lorclas/IP.jpg rabbit0102030 04-18-2007, 11:25 PM Yeah $150. That is parts (wiring, transformer, overlay) and installation. Seven colors, white face with tri color flames. Cool dash and gauge bezel LORCLASS. Painted my dash the same way, only green of course! Also painted my aluminum gauge bezel to match, glad to see what it will look similar too! davtak 04-19-2007, 02:04 AM mine are close to yours lorclass. Mine are just the ones that go from blue numbers to green numbers. No flames or anything, just white faces. I try to save myself any cask I can, cause I am pretty good at wiring things in. My old car I did all kinds of lights to toggle switches and other lights with a system in the trunk. Just tell me what color the dimmer wire is and I can figure out the rest. I already have taken off the needles and put the gauges in to see what they look like and I can't wait to get them installed. If I plug them in to the dimmer switch, they will go on when the headlights go on? Just making sure. local://upfiles/2600/80E8674B7B994747B9BE9F14D99FB13D.jpg Blazed0680 05-21-2007, 09:12 PM Also there is another website its usspeedo.com they have some nice gauges for the blazers and s10's LORCLAS 05-21-2007, 10:03 PM Anyone else notice the cleared needles in that first cluster pic? :D |
