Should there be fluid in the vacumn actuator for the four wheel drive system on a 1990 Blazer?
Thanks for any help in this matter.

Check and see if you can determin what kind of fluid it is and it might help lead you to where your problem is coming from.

Actually it looks, and feels, like trany fluid. Doesn't have the right consistancy for motor oil.
Am I right in assuming there shouldn't be any fluid in this vacumn actuator?

You are correct in assuming that there should be no fluid in any vacuum resevior/chamber. I don't know how it would get in the vacuum actuator, but check your modulator valve on the transmission (if it even has one) should be a round looking valve with a hard line coming from the engine area to the valve. That's the only place I can think of that transmission fluid can come from. Try tracing where the vacuum line comes from on the actuator,(also pull the vacuum line off and see if there is fluid in the line itself) it could lead you to the source.

Thanks for the help. I give tracing the line a shot.

More then likely its coming from your t-case. Your t-case uses tranny fluid as the lubricant instead of gear oil.
