I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice about taking my blazer mudding. I have a 98 blazer two door (although it is not a ZR2) with 31 in. tires but stock suspension wondering if taking it off road would be a good idea or not? Thanks for the help!

Sure...just don't try to conquor the world in one night. Be smart about it. Bring a shovel, tow strap, spare tire, small toolkit, can of fix-a-flat. I try to go with someone else if I'm going extreme... It sucks getting stuck with no one to pull you out

Yea, never go alone, you'll need someone to pull you out. and extend you'r diff vent lines to higher ground to avoid getting water in your diffs.

Extra pair of socks/shoes yours are bound to get wet
Don't waste money on crappy 12K 15 foot towstraps. They break and length usually ends up being an issue. 3" towstraps are perfect 4" ones are hard to get inside the receiver.
Also don't forget a board or something flat to put under the jack just in case. Jacks don't stay very sturdy in mud

I tend to drive it like i stole it too. But only when i have someone else to help me when i get stuck. The winch useally helps but if you break something and you'r left strandid it's nice to have a friend to drive you home to get your trailer or whatever your ganna use to get your rig home. Plus i have a shop to do all my own work and thats half the fun.

stones always work for proping the jack if ya don't take any boards with ya. Just be smart and if it don't look like you can get through it don't do it. Do what you feel you can handle. Especially if venturing by yourself on the trails. If you ahve a second vehicle you should be fine. but still be smart and don't go past your ablities

yep tools and tow straps the 2 basics i know ive needed both.
last time i went wheelin i was being stupid and trying to climb something way too big and ended up stuck. Had a friend drag me out but of course my exhaust caught a rock and ripped one side right off of the header and was dangling oddly enough i had a hack saw and took care of it. got pulled over for all the noise on the way home and while explaining why i was driving my truck like this the cop laughed at mystory and let me go with a warning since i wasnt far from home. all and all a fun time out and in the shop fixing it. hmm all this talk makes me want to go out again guess i know what im doing this weekend.

Doo Everything they already said, another suggestion for your off road kit would be a roll of georgia chrome (duct tape) misc hardware (nuts and bolts) and gods gift to the quick fixer upper....zip ties. better to be safe than sorry, i keet all this, a chain and a basic assorment of hand tool in my truck at all times, never know whats gunna happen. Also before ypou go off roading especially if its a new trail, GO SCOUT IT OUT. don't just plowing into a puddle off water assuming its 5inches deep. Even if you have gone down the trail still a good idea because where i live buffalo, the snow and ice have changed the trails since last season. just my 2sense.

Find a local 4wheeling club and join up.

Have fun. One day you will exceed yours and your trucks abilities. Hopefully all you get is stuck. Learn from it and move on.

i dont think that JRR_11 (http://www.blazerforum.com/showProfile.asp?memid=1264)still needs those tips on off-roading because he started the thread 1 and a half years ago

it's not about if he needs the advice any more.....if someone has the same question...they can just look up what things they should thing about for off roading...

Exactly right paddle_grl. I am new to off-road, living in Baja, and I am taking notes! Lot's of great suggestions in this post and many others, things I had not considered previously. Don't want to get stuck in a bad place here. Please keep the suggestions coming on off-road preparation.
