View Full Version : Door dings...
mdk681 11-12-2007, 11:22 AM I am about ready to freak out... Today I go to my truck to go to class and notice 2 fresh door dings in my drivers side door. Those 2 add to another 2 that were already there; this has brought me to the edge! Does anyone know a do it yourself way to remove these small dings? I know there are apparent "kits" out there that claim to work flawlessly... Anyone have any experience with this matter or have any suggestions on taking care of these?!
I have gone to a body shop and asked about getting them removed, and all I can say is my pockets are not deep enough to drop this kind of cash... Especially being a college student to start... [>:]
dimmuborgir6nik6 11-28-2007, 11:59 PM If you really went heavy duty, you'd have to get inside the door and probably knock them back out with a rubber mallet maybe. I have a few random dings that I don't think I could ever take out, including on my hood. I have bad damage from it being dropped on a shop floor. My hood is heavy and basically double layered, so I could never get inside it to knock them back out.
I also have a huge dent on my rear from it being backed up into a pole.

Me and my friend tried removing it with that suction cup tool, but the damn thing wouldn't budge. The entire truck was rocking back and fourth but that dent was just smiling at us.
DetroitMuscle 11-29-2007, 07:23 AM If you use hot water and dry ice you can take out the dents, first wash the area, then dry it, use the dry ice on the dings then a cup of hot water per ding and they pop right out, just watch out for hot water flying at you when you do this.
mdehoogh 11-29-2007, 11:13 AM does the dry ice method really work? our area got hit by a big hailstorm last may and i got maybe 12 new dings across the top of my truck. i researched a lot of different methods and i have come across a lot of mixed reviews.
i asked a guy at a dent-repair shop and he said it will work if you know exactly what you are doing. he also said if you dont do it perfectly, there is a chance it can crack your clearcoat. then again, he is the owner of a dent-repair shop and he obviously would rather have them do it for me than me do it myself
DetroitMuscle 11-29-2007, 11:31 AM it worked for me on 1978 metal dont need it on the t-10 yet, But I will use it again if I have to.
dimmuborgir6nik6 11-29-2007, 12:35 PM Can it get out something like the dent I have on the back of my truck?
There's pics if you wanna see.
EuroGoldLS 11-29-2007, 03:50 PM lets see the dent first. If its on the cross bar in the gate then there not really any method short of a body shop that will be able to get it out.

for those of you who dont have a myspace account, this is the picture he linked to above.
sadly, the dy ice trick wont work on a dent that large. its only supposed to work on coin sized dents
blznlowxtreme 11-29-2007, 04:50 PM that looks like a body shop dent to me, it looks like it has a pretty good crease at the bottm and top
EuroGoldLS 11-29-2007, 05:13 PM I call it a dent. There ain't much ding to it.
dimmuborgir6nik6 11-30-2007, 01:34 AM I forgot about that, I'm gonna have to host my pictures from another site. I was hosting it from my myspace just for quicker linking. Sorry about that guys.
But yeah, that dent is from becking up into a pole. Someone else was driving my truck when they did it, but it's pretty bad.
I do have a big dent on my hood though from it being dropped in a shop while getting a rebuilt engine.

You can see the dent on the front of my hood.
blznlowxtreme 12-01-2007, 09:47 AM i think i would just save up and let a body shop smooth out the whole truck and have it re-painted.
sdm1234 01-01-2008, 10:07 PM omg that's quite a dent! what the hell hit you??
Chevy Lover 01-02-2008, 12:54 AM For those 2 dents + paint in my shop (judging by what I see) you'd be looking at about $750, in Vancouver, Canada. [:o]
Probably only cost you about $600 in gas, round trip.
JMorton 02-22-2008, 05:28 PM Go to Wal-mart and get a couple of cans of that canned air computer guys use for blowing out keyboards and such (Dust-Off?).
Take a hair dryer out and heat the area of the dent for a minute or so. Immediately tip the can of Dust Off upside down and spray the area for a couple of minutes. When the can is upside down, youare spraying liquid CO2 which is VERY cold. This will shrink out minor dents with no paint damage. Works just like using dry ice but without the hassle.
thegr81 02-22-2008, 07:01 PM What you can do is take off the interior panels inside to access that part of the body and knock it out safely!!
honkeetonk 02-26-2008, 05:14 PM if you have quarter sized dings try the paintless ding/dent removal - i got it done on my old car and it worked great it was about $80 to get 2 dings out. Basically what they do is get in between the door and massage the ding out with a hot compress and roll them out

Those canned air things are actually Difluoroethane, which boils at -13*F. Dry ice (CO2) is a solid, and turns to gas (sublimation) and that occurs at -108*F. Aside from the adverse health effects of difluoroethane (there is a reason the cans say never shake/tip, not just because it's cold), there isn't really enough temp difference to make the metal pop.
Stick with the dry ice if youre gunna try the hot/cold method :D

lol a friend of mine had one of those cans and we were messin around w/ it tippin it upside down and sprayin it and stuff. and ya that stuff gets really really cold o ya also a good thing to wear a mask or something cuz the odor that it omits is horrible and its one of those odors u can taste in the air too so ya just watch what u do w/ those cans
aced411 02-27-2008, 12:47 PM That taste is a bitterent that is added to deter junkies from inhaling it directly to get high. As long as you're in an open area you'll be fine......although I have a hard time believing it'll actually work, but if it does let us know
