I folded my rear seats down an unknowingly crushed a bottle of gear oil. There is a nice puddle soaked into my carpet behind my drivers seat. Any suggestions on how to remove the oil??

There is a nice puddle soaked into my carpet behind my drivers seat. Any suggestions on how to remove the oil?? thegr81 02-11-2008, 02:52 AM Shampoo the living daylights outta it!!!! TheBrettster 02-11-2008, 03:23 AM Try some simple green / the orange hand pumice soap. swartlkk 02-11-2008, 08:45 AM Simple Green and a carpet shampoo'er. Preferrably one with a powered head on it. I have a Bissel little green machine that I use for cleaning the carpets in my vehicles. Works great, but wish I had a powered head on it for some of the dug in stuff. WolfPack 02-11-2008, 10:40 AM Is gear oil too thick for the kitty litter trick to wick the oil part out of the carpet? ltown21 02-11-2008, 05:47 PM hit it with alot of degreaser then shampoo it. or if you dont have the stuff to do it, but some extractor, and apply it, brush it in, and shop vac it. EuroGoldLS 02-12-2008, 08:43 PM Simple green, or you can dilute some greased lightning and scrub into it. ltown21 02-12-2008, 10:00 PM ya if you don't dilute it, it can stain your carpet[:-] EuroGoldLS 02-12-2008, 11:03 PM To safely clean carpet, its a 1-10 ratio. 1 part GL, 10 parts water. Philly Assassin 02-16-2008, 11:44 PM ill be tryin the diluted simple green then shampoo tommrrow. ill let everyone know how it goes thxs for the advice everyone !! JMorton 02-22-2008, 05:17 PM Try a can of ether, engine starting fluid. Works great on grease that gets on the carpet. WolfPack 02-22-2008, 05:19 PM Haha..but then you have starter fluid in your carpet! JMorton 02-22-2008, 05:22 PM ORIGINAL: WolfPack Haha..but then you have starter fluid in your carpet! Nope! It lifts the grease out and the remainder evaporates with no residue. Been doing it for years in the big truck shops, even in my house when I track in grease. Works like a charm. 2002XTREME 02-22-2008, 05:22 PM be careful as mentioned already Simple green has bleach in it ... It will stain the carpet...I`m sure no matter what that smell will always be there unless you put a million little tree air fresheners in it... WolfPack 02-22-2008, 05:35 PM Yea I can still smell gas in my blazer on hot days from when the jetski gas tank tipped over in the back:( swartlkk 02-22-2008, 07:25 PM The bleach in simple green is new to me... I have used it in the laundry with my work clothes without issue. Well, this kinda confirms that... Source - SimpleGreen.com (http://www.simplegreen.com/products_all_purpose_cleaner.php) Simple Green is one of the most versatile all-purpose cleaners you can buy! It’s non-toxic and biodegradable, without harmful bleach. WolfPack 02-22-2008, 07:32 PM Haha oh dear..[sm=bustedsign.gif] thegr81 02-22-2008, 07:36 PM Simple green seems to be the all purpose multi use cleaner for all sorts of things!! 2002XTREME 02-22-2008, 07:42 PM I can say for sure that it stains aluminum...... ok so whats in it that ya have to do this? Always spot-test on an inconspicuous area (such as in a closet or spot that’s covered by furniture,) before cleaning large or prominent areas. This is to make sure that your carpet is colorfast and compatible with Simple Green swartlkk 02-22-2008, 07:43 PM I keep a 50/50 mix in a spray bottle in the shop for cleaning up stuff. My parents car had an oil leak one day when they pulled into my driveway. Sprayed some simple green on the asphault and let it sit for a bit. Hosed it off and the oil was gone. As I already said, I use it to clean my work shirts/pants with grease and oil on them. Also use it to wash my shop towels. Both come out very well. Too bad the washer doesn't fair too well. I always end up cleaning it out as it'll get a ring of gunk at the water line that comes out of the laundry. Wife really hates that when I don't get all of that stuff wiped out. LOL *EDIT* - Never have tried it on any aluminum, but I don't doubt it. Aluminum gets stained fairly easily though. thegr81 02-22-2008, 07:45 PM ORIGINAL: swartlkk I keep a 50/50 mix in a spray bottle in the shop for cleaning up stuff.
