View Full Version : wat are the BL that they are made?????? Blazin_1t_up 09-09-2008, 11:47 PM i found this body lift and it says it lifts 2 or 3 inches http://www.jcwhitney.com/Lift-Kits/GP_2005819_N_111+1995+200728442+600003409_10101.jc w#BVQAWidgetID and idk if that is the right one for my truck WolfPack 09-10-2008, 01:07 AM Yep that's the right one for you. It says 2 or 3 inches so they can use the same description for all Preformance Accesories kits. 1st gen blazers can do 3' BL, but 95+ are only 2'. That cost seems a bit low though...I wouldn't be surprised if it does not actually include bumper brackets (despite what the generic description says). I'd say spend a few more and get the one from Synergy Offroad here (http://www.shop.synergyoffroad.com/product.sc?categoryId=10&productId=21). Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 09:30 PM so that has every thing i need as in front bumperbrackets and back... and how hard is it to put on a BL lift ur self myol blue4x4 09-10-2008, 09:33 PM BL arent too bad, you dont have to be that mechanically inclined, but it is very time consuming. Spend the extra $$$ and go with the performance accessories BL, it is a great kit, but you might want to get more detailed instructions online. Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 09:39 PM how time copnsumein and do u think one person could do it bythere self WolfPack 09-10-2008, 09:39 PM More detailed instructions from us :D And yes they're definitely not the most advanced mechanical endeavor you could take on...but it's definitely not a couple hours- minimal sweat job. You pretty much remove both bumpers, loosen a bunch of ground straps, a few cable clips, take of the fan shroud, then put in the spacers, and reassemble. The catch is that both bumpers have to be trimmed quite a bit to fit back on (at least they do on the 98+, not so sure about the 95-97s). Edit: (fast poster...) My lift install took me 2 full days with a helper. The biggest pains were the bumpers. Also, if you've got any rust on your body mounts...that complicates things. It can be done by yourself, but it will just take longer. Do you have air tools? Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 09:53 PM no i have no air tools and ive cheacked abt rust and found none WolfPack 09-10-2008, 09:55 PM then do itttttttt Air tools just make certain bolts easier :) myol blue4x4 09-10-2008, 10:04 PM Yeah you have to do trimming on the rear bumpers for the 95-97's aswell. Ohh and dont forget the PB blast. WolfPack 09-10-2008, 10:06 PM None of that shenanigans in NC:D Although those bolts are torqued on rather tight. Definitely PB Blast ;) Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 10:29 PM oh ok ... wat kinda triming Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 10:31 PM and wat abt the gap guards....a buddy of mine said he made his out of cheap rubber floor mats..... WolfPack 09-10-2008, 10:45 PM Gap guards can be bought for ~$30/axle or made. I have no gap guards on currently though. I've got a thread on what has to be cut for the bumpers on the body lift...but I can't seem to find it. The search engine on this forum is the absolute worst. How does 'trimming for body lift' not pull up anything, on this entire forum. Edit: Found it...still without the search though... CLICK me! It's nothing a sawzall can't handle :D Blazin_1t_up 09-10-2008, 11:17 PM oh ok it aint to bad i got the stuff for that Drifter666 09-15-2008, 05:31 PM doing a BL on a 2nd gen must be very difficult if it took you 2 days, i did mine in like 3 hours on a 1st gen all hand tools WolfPack 09-15-2008, 06:42 PM The longest parts were trimming and fitting the front and rear bumpers. Also disassembly was a pain, tracking down all the ground straps, wiring clips, and brake lines. The actual unbolting, positioning the spacers, and rebolting, and extending the fuel neck took hardly any time at all...hour or two total for those. Also had a bit of a snag since the instructions indicated that 2000 and older only had 10 body mounts as opposed to the 2001+ having 12....I definitely had 12 mounts. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't separate the body/frame at the back for a sec [&:] myol blue4x4 09-15-2008, 06:52 PM ORIGINAL: WolfPack The longest parts were trimming and fitting the front and rear bumpers. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't separate the body/frame at the back for a sec [&:] Yeah I pretty much had the same problem, minus on the 95-97 blazers you dont have to cut and extend the fuel filler neck which was one less thing to do. :D Blazin_1t_up 09-15-2008, 11:23 PM so we have 10 mounts? WolfPack 09-15-2008, 11:28 PM I believe you should have 10...I have 12. Which is odd for a 2000. Guess I'm late model year 2000. Blazin_1t_up 09-15-2008, 11:37 PM that could have somethin to do with ithow should i lift the body up??? WolfPack 09-15-2008, 11:55 PM Once you get everything disassembled and prepped, you loose one side's body mounts, but you don't remove the bolts. Just enough to let the body pivot. Then you go to the other side, and take those body mount bolts out. Then I used a foot-long section of 4x4 wood post with my floor jack, and just lift up the body. It will seperate from the frame, and you lift it up just barely enough to slide the lift puck in. Then you put those bolts back in (don't tighten them), go back to the other side, repeat. This time you locktite the bolts and torque down. Go back to first side, remove bolts, locktite, replace. Done :D Aside from that pesky 'reassembly' thing! Blazin_1t_up 09-16-2008, 12:01 AM where can i get a torques bit that big..... for the frontbumper WolfPack 09-16-2008, 02:25 AM Not sure if you need a Torx bit. 98+ sure don't, but if you do need a Torx bit to get the bumper off, Sears has a nice set, or you can go cheap and go to Harbor frieght/Farm and fleet/Northern Tool and pick up a set. Blazin_1t_up 09-16-2008, 03:15 PM yeah i need a BIG one and idk abt the back bumper myol blue4x4 09-16-2008, 05:24 PM Oh yeah you definately need two different torx bits. I had that problem, I got one that fit the rear, went back to a friends garage and realized that the front is a different size. So I ended up going back to Ace Hardware and getting the other bit. Blazin_1t_up 09-17-2008, 11:10 AM you wouldnt happen to kno the sizes would you? myol blue4x4 09-17-2008, 01:33 PM Well I dont know off hand right now but I do know that the bit's are at my parents house, so if you can wait till friday or saturday then I can get ya the sizes. Blazin_1t_up 09-17-2008, 08:08 PM well ur gonna laugh buit i used a sized allen wrench and took it off today myol blue4x4 09-17-2008, 11:27 PM Well that works too lol, I was going to do that but I figured it would be way too tight and I didnt have one big enough. Blazin_1t_up 09-17-2008, 11:30 PM well to change my brakes i need a big one and i found a kit with it in it myol blue4x4 09-18-2008, 09:18 AM So sence you got your bumpers removed then did you put the BL on yet? Blazin_1t_up 09-18-2008, 12:30 PM no i was just seein wat it would take... i kno yall told me but i had to see |
