The pedigree is it has a 75 small block 400 with TRW pistons,RV cam and the heads were remanufactured 400smblk heads with Z28 springs and new lifters and pushrods. My question is after the engine was rebuilt the guy who finished it for me screwed me over and I think it wiped the lobes on the cam but I am not totally convinced. My dad drove it from georgia to SC and it only made it half way about 2.5hrs befor it started sputering and wouldnt start after. Well with that said it also has no inline fuel filter so I think it might be the carb but what I want to know is if it is the cam how do I tell what cam to replace it with? I want a higher torque engine so nothing that is for racing. Can someone shed some light on this for me I am completely beside myself I really love this truck and dont want to let it go. I am in alaska so I cant exactly look at it when I want to.

The RV cam should provide pretty good low end torque. I would contact a reputable cam manufacturer (I have experience with the call in tech lines offered by both Crane and Comp) and go over your engine specs and your expectations. Have all of the information handy (bore, stroke, intake, carb size, compression ratio, head port volumes and valve sizes, etc) before you call. To get the best for your application and expectations, this information will be asked for.
