i highly recomend a msd ignition i think my 6a cost me around 200 bucks so not too bad and a definate impovement adding a wiring adapter makes the install a lot easier but its a simple install as is and tossing in a msd igniton coil will help a little and there around 50 to 100 depending on which one you get also go to s-10planet.com and pick up an egr mod. i have also heard about people taking off the throttle valve off the throttle body ( that thing that controls how much air goes into the engine) but i dont know if i recomond it since that might lower your gas mileage and if you screw up doing it a new throttle body is expensive.

oh i just remembered one more that i havent done just because i dont trust the idea to much but other people have removed the screen from their mass air flow sensor but if you already have an cai you might have took that off i dont know just another idea. but yeah check out s10planet since a lot of the s-10 and s-10 balzer are pretty identical when it come to the engine.

ok actualy im having a hard time finding that egr mod site so as soon as i do i'll post the adress for you unless some one else does first

FatRyan

sweet sweet. how hard is the install? how much HP can i expect to gain?

dobbist
04-27-2005, 11:48 PM
the ignition to install just have to hook up a pos and neg wire to the battery and then either splice it into the existion wires to the coil or get the adapter which just plugs in with color coded wires as for hp propably 5 maybe 10 all depends on how stock and which msd model you go for torque will be about the same.

well i found it again took me 2 hours so heres the link to the egr mod

http://gallery.bcentral.com/GID4624293P1032759-EGR/Planet-EGR-Limiter.aspx

but im still a little unsure how to install what the hell is the egr tube?? i thought you had to take off the air conditoning unit but i guess not so if anyone has done this mod if they can explain the process in detail i would apreciate it also for buying it would you just buy for a blazer? since i think you have to have atleast a 96 would that be a s10 blazer or what?

the cheapest thing to do is weight reduction.

dobbist
04-28-2005, 12:11 AM
are you kidding do you know how much a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood cost? not to mention any other panel replaced to lighten it

FatRyan
04-28-2005, 02:44 AM
ok, cool cool. is that EGR thing safe?

i mean just taking out the stuff you really don't need. like air bags, a/c, spare tire and jack, etc. he wanted cheap, this ones free.

Patrick

i agree with the weight reduction items...it is free...[8D]

Dobbist, the EGR tube is just the lil tube where the EGR valve goes into the intake manifold.

I agree with the weight reduction. It's about the cheapest way to go a lil faster. You could do like all the lil Chevy Racing wannabes around here do. Those that have TBI unscrew the wingnut from the top of the air filter cover, flip the lid over (exposing the filter) and screw it back on. Buncha posers. They act like it adds 50 hp.

spare tire is already gone (for my subs). and im not gonna take out the airbags or AC. I dont think the weight reduction is that way for me to go. my subs and box way like 100+ lbs. And they sure as hell arent leaving.

when i had a tbi i just replaced the stock air intake with the old school circle kind open face with a 14 inch filter 2 inches bigger than stock. but about the egr tube i still have no idea whats going on. i took off my egr and the bottom was flat and nothing stickng out of the intake manifold. but i'll look agian in my repair manual to see if shows me something i missed.

i dont wanna do anything that can potentially damage my truck or void the warranty. im gonna look into the aftermarket ignition. any other ideas guys?

dobbist
04-29-2005, 03:35 AM
if you still under a warranty i wouldnt do anything other than a kn air filter, personally id just wait till that is up and go hog wild maybe even try a engine swap for a 502 [sm=gears.gif] since really anything can void a warranty or just before you take it to the shop spend some time and un mod it

FatRyan
04-29-2005, 03:38 AM
i just got the warranty. its an extended warranty...5 years/60k miles. so its good till my blazer is at ~145k miles or 4.2 yrs from now

dobbist
04-29-2005, 03:59 AM
well then dont do any extreme things and just un bolt any mod and revert to stock before going to a dealership other wise just make sure what you install says it won't void the warranty that way if it does send the company the bill

FatRyan
04-29-2005, 04:04 AM
you know if that ignition mod will affect warranty?

Patrick
04-29-2005, 03:42 PM
there was a law passed that states that any aftermarket modification cannot be the sole cause for an warranty void...they must prove proof positive that the aftermarket part CAUSED the problem. i have seen this posted on lots of forums...because car dealerships were saying, "well, you changed the air filter, so we wont warranry the engine even thgouh it had a faulty part"...

FatRyan
04-29-2005, 05:25 PM
i wasnt aware that that was a law, but i knew that it wont void a warranty without proof it damaged the car. but im worried it will damage the car.

i mean come on if it was a car and there fore designed to somewhat run a track yeah sure lighten it up add major ponies to it but a truck ? i like going fast in mine but i'm not interested in going so fast id have to take out all the comforts of an suv to do it thats what muscle cars and rice grinders are for.

FatRyan

seriously...

05-01-2005, 04:37 PM
my theory is low and slow. i dfinatly would not want to go fast in my blazer, too narrow, too tall, it just wouldn't feel safe at high speeds. plus, speeding tickets get pretty expensive.

FatRyan
05-01-2005, 05:29 PM
well if i were to have a significant HP gain (i.e. lsx swap), i would definatly drop the truck. otherwise, a small HP gain isnt any worry for me.

timetoblaze
05-04-2005, 12:46 AM
well i feel you on that one but my roomate is building a race truck he uses it as a daily until he finds a beater

FatRyan
05-04-2005, 01:55 AM
id love to do that...i just dont have any money:(. but i already got a beater:)

timetoblaze
05-06-2005, 02:25 AM
yea i would too but mines a 4x4 so wouldnt be very fast...

yo this mod is supose to give you a couple more hp cheap to free! mod (http://www.mys10.com/tech/tech_view.asp?newsid=93&catid=43&active=0&mode=current) <-----click

FatRyan
05-06-2005, 02:46 AM
i have 4x4 too, but i think lsx's work with 4x4, along with some other v8s.

and, i dont want to mod my truck if it could void my warranty. thanx anyway.

if you go to the junk yark and find another throttle plate for you blazer mod that one if you need to take it back for fixin just throw the stock one back on so it wouldnt be free but still wouldnt cost too much but, thats just me

FatRyan
05-08-2005, 03:52 AM
yeah, although id be screwed if i got stranded somewhere without tools...like i did 3 days ago. my godd*mn fuel pump went. 750 freakin dollars to fix it! thank god for my warranty.:)

timetoblaze
05-09-2005, 09:23 PM
holy sh*t what did they do make the fuel pump themselves? you prolly could have done it yourself for way less than that i helped my roommate do one on his dakota it wasnt that bad...

FatRyan
05-10-2005, 04:01 AM
im sure i coulda done it myself...but why? it was free.

FatRyan
06-30-2005, 07:09 PM
i already have an AEM cold air intake system. and i will be getting custom dual exhaust soon...i hope.

As far as weight loss just stick with small stuff. Not your comforts and the reasons you bought the truck like A/C for example. Roll pan, fiberglass hood, plastic, and aluminum is the way to go. I go 0-60 in 5.8 second with my seats, dash, door panels, carpet, and dual 12 inch subs in a solid wood box.

FatRyan
07-03-2005, 03:33 PM
i dont have the money for fiberglass and aluminum stuff. it just looks hopeless now. whatever.

personnally I say to hell ith weight reduction. The only reduction on my ride is the steady loss of fuel. There are too many ways to get speed to do that sort of stuff. An easy one is to figure out which rear-end you have a go get one that is one numerical step higher. A good difference can be made this way and it doesn't cost you all three of your legs if you do the work yourself.

under drive pulleys, 160* thermostat, and the throttle plate mod are the next 3 things im gonna do, should cost just a little over a $130 since ill do the work myself.

blazer pulleys are pretty cheap on truckperformance.com (which is also where i got my high flow cat)
