Hey everyone, I searched for this problem but couldn't find an answer. I found a TON of stuff on the newer model Blazers, but nothing on the full-size, K5 type Blazers.

I picked up a full-size 91 Blazer a few months ago in preparation for winter driving (my Mustang is barely driveable in the snow). I got a great deal on it, but it definitely needs some work.

The immediate problem I'm having is the tailgate is incredibly difficult to open. Also, the electric window barely rolls down at times. The weird thing is sometimes it rolls down pretty quick, other times it barely moves at all.

Anyways, I roll down the window and have to reach behind to pull up on the back handle to open the tailgate (not sure if I'm supposed to be able to open it from the outside). It used to open with a good hard pull, but now it seems like I have to really pull hard on it while I press in on the tailgate. There are times I can't get it open at all and just have to give up on it.

Any ideas?

Take the inner access panel off the tailgate and check the window side channels for dirt and rust. Lube them up while you're in there.
Have a look at the latches on the sides of the tailgate to see where they contact the strikers, they may need some adjustment.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't know they could be adjusted. Now I have something I can at least mess with.

What about the window? It gets about 1/2 way up and makes a loud "chunk" noise, but then continues to roll up. Any idea what that may be?

Possible rusted window guide channels or a bent channel.....

I'll try to remember to take a look at mine tomorrow (later today) as mine should be similar to yours.
Then I can take and post some pics.

You can check the gap between your tailgate and the 1/4 panel and if you have to, you can add shims behind the strikers. The strikers also can be adjusted a little up, down, back or forward. A little trick for checking latch to striker contact is to put some masking tape on the striker and close the tailgate, open the tailgate and you should see on the tape the exact contact marks. This tape trick also works on door strikers.
