I used to be a Mechanic both Civilian and Military, If I could do it again I would have waited for an opening at the MP school instead of taking a mechanic job. Its good to know but anyone with a mechnical mindset can do it, its not hard to learn. Its a job, it paid the bills but I love money too much to not make alot of it.

And yes, always working on other peoples junk instead of my own kinda bored me out of the hobby, I just stick around for the technical data thats to be had on these forums.

LastCoupe, are they making you get certified for the new makes ?

Thanks man. Yeah, I guessone thing you can say about my profession is that they won't be sending my job overseas!I am good at it too, I have very few repeat concerns ("come-backs) and in only 8 years, I am the highest paid flat rate tech in the shop. I'm not tryin' to brag, just trying to ensure I stay interested and not board to go looking for something else, I like to keep my feet planted. At least until my kids are grown.

No, not as of yet anyway.

I beg to differ, but In the 8 years I've been at this dealer there have been well over 50 techs in-and-out of there and MOST of them were NOT ANYGOOD at it at all. I agree that it's not hard to replace parts, buta parts changer does not a technician make.

Its a job, it paid the bills but I love money too much to not make alot of it.

Yes it's a job......It almost pays the bills (LOL)...........and believe me I've looked and I can't find any other job that I can make 55,000 a year without going back to college.

Sorry for posting 2-in-a-row KYLE:)

Since I got out of the navy (was a jetengine mechanic for 8 years)in May my friend and I have opened our own buisness. We do handyman services and more. Pretty much, if it needs to be repaired on a house we can do it. Last week I finished restoring four woodenporch collumsthat are 80 years old. They needed to be replaced, but the house is in a historic area and the owner wanted them to stay. We are looking into getting our contractors license.

Then there is the side buisness that I have making herbal bath items.

Well, I was a mechanic from '74 til '02 when a motorcyle accident changed my life. After I recovered in mid '06 I tried to return but the body couldn't do it. For the last 6 months I have been working as a body shop estimater, part time. I consider myself to be semi-retired and hope to retire before '08.
I found the blazer forum during my recovery and joined to try to keep my mind working.
I'm thinking about buying a larger boat and hiring myself out as a salmon fishing guide. If that happens I'll let you know and I'll expect lots of blazer lover reservations.

Highly trained specialist in the art of contractual home delivery of this delightfully worthless newspaper http://www.times-news.com (paperboy) I use my car and spend about 3 hours a night exposed to the elements (wind, snow, rain, drunks, etc);)

Have a couple years of college under my belt. Originally majored in Political Science and pre-law. After a two year hiatus due to personal matters and a 180 degree turn around in my personal belief system this idea was abandoned. Have decided to go back to college this fall and major in WebPage development (something I might actually enjoy doing for a living). Probably take a course or two in the summer to get my college bearings back. Might finish my associates degree for Poly Sci just because I have all of the credits specific to it already completed. My biggest goal is to get out of the dead-end-job town I've called "home" for the past 7 years. I've gotten a little cynical over the past 3 years, dealing with ungreatful verbally and even occasionally physically abusive customers and its a quality of myself I don't like.

I worked in a jewellery store in high school as well. I don't see the difference between that and working in a retail clothing store. There's a bigger possiblity of a kid stealing a pair of jean than a gold ring,I think. The jeans aren't locked up the same.

Right now I'm a stay at home mom but soon...I don't know, something that pays! LOL

In the past I've...hmmm...let's see....

I've been a produce manager for a large grocery chain for 3 years, I also was a floor techincian for 2 years (you know, wax on wax off), I ran a computer aided assembly machine for a year (It assembled, taped and stacked cardboard boxes), I worked in a frozen food warehouse for a year, and I worked in a maintenance department for a large factory for a year. I've done it all, mostly. And when I was a kid I worked fast food, but that doesn't count!;)

I think everyone has at least one job they excel at, they're really good at, and this would be mine. I really love it, too, which helps. Anal retentiveness never felt so good!

Nice. Electric or nitro helis? Seems to be getting fairly popular now a days. Few people around here have been doing that for years now. Much cheaper than full scale to operate.

I dont think its a waste. maybe not now, but later down the road this piece of paper will allow me to make an average of 80-100k a year, compared to 30k without it. To each there own, but I prefer to make the 80-100k. The way I look at it, this 50k I invested now, will pay for itself and then some. In a short period of time. A degree vs no degree, A degree usually wins.

I went to school for architectural design. Finished last year. $50,000 in the hole and cant find a single job in the field with this economy. Luckly I have a decent paying job right now, but prefer a job in the field I would enjoy.

Did you go to a University for your masters in it?

I can either do a 7 year course for my masters in it, or a 2 year course for a degree I believe?

No way can I handle 7 years more of school. I need to start making money as soon as I can. I also know someone that just went for the 2 year course and they are doing everything someone with the 7 year can do, and making the same wage.

I am currently working as a systems administrator for a civil engineering company. We have 3 offices in western PA and I manage the computer systems at all 3.

I also do consulting on the side for a few organizations that I just don't have the heart to blow them off. I've been their "IT" guy for years and it's good side work - its just killing my potential free time.

I am also currently going to Penn State to finish my Information Science and Technology degree. Straight out of high school I went a few years and made some bad choices. I was going downhill until I got the job I am currently at. It paid good by a 20 year old's standards and I dropped out of school. Fast forward 5 years and I started going back for my bachelor's instead of just my associates. I'd like to work as an IT manager at a hospital. It would be nice to be around cute nurses all day and know that in some indirect way I am helping people help other people.

Junior in HS.
Been working for my uncle doing construction since I was 12 (4 years ago...)
Recently haven't any work for two reasons.
No one's building anything, and he fell 20 feet from a tree stand, so he's been in the hospital for a while.
