Hey..
Im new to the site and i ran my 97 Blazer down the 1/4 mile for fun and ran a 16.9 with a 2.4 60 foot.
Just wanted to see what other people are doing with bone stock blazers.

i ran a 15.7 e.t. in my 2000 2dr 5spd 2wd blazer bone stock. 2.21 60ft and spun till thru second.

Very respectable. Gotta get a bit better on the clutch release to keep that wheel spin down!!

Cool, I wasn't sure what these could do stock on the quarter mile but that is better than I was thinking. I was used to my 94 SHO that could do a 1/4 mile stock in 14.5 seconds and then with the few performance upgrades I did to it, it was doing a 1/4 mile in 14.1seconds. I wonder what the blazer would run with exhaust, an intake, and a ECM flash/power programmer?

To answer that question, 15 flat. Thats why my buddy's 97 2 door 2wd ran with those same items. Probably could have done better than that but he sucks at driving stick and he never would let me drive it. Was a nice blazer too, till it met a light pole.

How would you drag race the automatic? just put it in drive or manual shift from 1 - 2 - 3 - D. I think the later is what my friend does in his Monte Carlo, wasnt sure if this would be bad on the blazers transmission.

i dont think its my skills with a clutch. rather than the track i was on and tires to go with that. i launched at 2500rpm's and even peddled it to try a get traction ... never really helped though. ... o and i almost forgot the locker i have in it started giving out so it wouldnt lock up all the time. what is everybody else launching at with a 5spd blazer

I found no real difference between eithermethod on the auto trans. If anything i prefer to run in drive as it limits revs to 5000 vs 5600. The extra 600 rpms have minimal power associated with them. Only other thing i do isoff the light is i brake stand it up to 1300 - 1500 rpms and launch out of that.

Personally I just can't see myself drag racing a Blazer. Back when I lived near a 1/4 mile track I was more usedto racingmy Shelbyand making12 and 13second quarter miles. I did see someone last weekend at the 1/8th mile track race a full-size with HUGE swampers though....he made 15 seconds in his 1/8th mile. But then again those things aren't made for speed, especially equipped with those rims and tires.

For drag racing an auto with a "factory" style transmission... Use 3rd... You'll never go any faster in a stock-ish blazer to need 4th, lol, and I think the torque converter is less likely to kick in (On my old Lumina Z34 which had the 4T60-E... basically the FWD version of the Blazer's transmission, it worked.)

Using 1s and 2nd is kinda pointless... There's no reason to hold the RPM's any longer, and on my old Lumina, anyway, 1st and second actually had parasitic vacuum loss due to the gears used mostly for slowing down... Not sure if the Blazer's work the same way, though...

Brake torque the Blazer to probably about 1800 - 2200 RPM... Maybe 2500RPM, if she goes that high... Not sure what range the beastie has for that sort of thing, as I drive a 5 speed...

Speaking of which, is it just me, or does the 5 speed seem a little tougher to shift into 3rd when at high (above 4000) rpm's?

my blazer used to be esay to shift into all gears, but when i got my new clutch put in i dont think something lined up rite. 3rd and 5th are farther over to the right now an thats what make it hard for me to grab a gear now. i have gotten used though.

went to the track again. this time my locker is toast. first run was a 17.5 with a 3.6 60' time. of course it was only a hair above 30 degrees out. spun horribly off the line. next pass i held 1300 or so rpm's and rode the clutch like an aggressive street start 2.3 60 foot and a 15.78. ran the same e.t. the rest of the nght. i know i can get low 15's like it is if i can launch but since my rear aint to hppy with me rite now im limitd to the one wheelie peelie. anybody have any ideas on what i should do or were i can replace the locker for cheap?

Rcars, how the heck did you do a brake stand. only time I can do any wheel spin is if it's wet or turning. tried brake standing it once and got nothing, not even one tire like i was expecting.

mmench
03-04-2008, 05:49 AM
HUH? really? mine is a 5 spd but dam it is still easy to spin them tires. in fact it spins way to much lol... but i beleive that Rcars is refering to were you stage an automatic. after you set the lights you hold the break in and bring your engine up in the rpms. since you have the break depressed you wont move and the extra rpms off the line help with launching. he wasnt trying to explain a burn out

Something gotta be wrong if you cant burn out,i do it with mine all the time thats why i need new tires, and thier 31 x 10.5 which is bigger than stock

would thelimited slip have anything to with it.

mmench
03-06-2008, 06:09 AM
nope.... i have/had limited slip in a blazer and full posi in another for a short bit.. both spun wheels just fine.

Karnyboy92

ive tried to burnout before and unless its wet only one tire spins and the brakes have to be warmed up to do that

my blazer would do that stuff too... when it had the stock motor and trans :) now i can "brake stand" till my tires melt off.. i had a posi locker put in and when i launch it only chips and than goes with my 245/35/20's. when it shifts to 2nd it leaves patches :)

Anything with wheel:D We run 4 wheelers some times here on the weekends. I even seen lawn mowers, and tractors with car engines[>:]

Edit: No the lawn mowers did not have car engines so no ideas.. Only the tractors.

See I find it if our trucks were lighter we would be so much better. My truck feels like its giong to roll in turns ect, and it just feels like a sloppy pig lol. My Jeep was never like that but also 1500lbs lighter. Same thing with my buddies explorer. Our trucks would be a heck of a lot better if they were lighter. I wouldent even want to know my 1/4 mile. I have an Cold Air Intake and a Super 40 exhaust, and it it helped alot but if the truck was lighter it would be a dream come true.

I think also if my Blazer had 4.10 gears in it like my Jeep did than my blazer would deffinitally blow away my Jeep

i ran a 17 without launching my blazer at all.. i wouldnt reccomend launching a automatic trans, the torque converters tend to balloon up and then explode......

Keeping it real is not necro-posting a thread that died a long time ago lol.

Some guys like beating up on those "macho" civics with Blazers, I know for a fact my 5spd 4x4 is faster than a little Sentra, and my clutch was slipping through second.
