2nd gen keyless entry into 1st gen?
ok so my friend just did a keyless entry mod on his jetta and i wanted to do keyless entry to my blazer. i was curious will a keyless entry out of a 2nd gen easily fit in a 1st gen w/ out much modding? (i do have power locks) i just wanted to compare it to getting an aftermarket one and which would be easier. if the 2nd gen to 1st gen wont work what aftermarket keyless entry systems/alrams do u suggest?

I'm gonna say an aftermarket will be easier than trying to mod the 2nd gen to fit. At least with aftermarket you get a nice wiring diagram and warranty.

The 98+ RKE modules communicate with the body control module through a serial data connection. This is something not present in any of the 1st gen models. I have not yet checked out how the '95-'97 RKE modules communicate with the rest of the vehicle.

I just picked up a bulldog RS700, give me a week or two to finally get it in and I'll tell you if I like it or not. Autozone has this model for $80 I think but I got it still in the package for $15 at a fleamarket. Bulldog has a lifetime warranty but I don't know.
