Default dead alternator

well today i fried my alt [:@] so i went and got a remanufactured champion 105 amp and got my personal mechanic to put er in for $25. And i was wondering instead of bringing the old one back for the $30 or take it to get rebuilt, but problem is the housing is pretty small. Will it be worth it to rebuild this one to around 170amps, or even possible? he said prolly $100 for the rebuild. it will need to power around 1000 rms (mrd-m501/concept 75x2)
